It says it can be used on "soft surfaces" but nowhere does it say clothes or shoes. Wouldn't want to damage genuine leather or sensitive materials on expensive sneakers…

Can confirm. I've bought several of these at Target, and they sputter with lots of disinfectant left in the can. The can feels a solid 1/3 of the way full. Was wondering if my Target just carried duds, but sounds like its a known issue.
