I own a nice DLC Cruwear Para 3, a tricked out DLC M4 Paramilitary 2 with custom Fat Carbon handles and titanium hardware, and a carbon fiber 535-3 Bugout. They're all great knives, but to compare them to a Civivi Elementum is just dumb and ridiculous. Those are all premium knives which costs a lot more than this knife.
Elementum is a good, cheap EDC knife. At this price with S35VN, it's not overrated like you're saying and it's a great deal.
I just don't think poo-pooing a knife that is specifically priced for a different type of user is fair.

These Civivi knives at full price are in Spyderco pricing territory which is the only reason I compared them. I'd take a Spyderco with "worse" steel for $19 more than this knife at full price.

If I didn't have way too many knives (I should sell some/many) I would get this.
Look at the Hogue Deka as a Bugout competitor. Better steel (20CV vs. S30V), same locking mechanism and better out-of-the-box smoothness, to me better ergonomics, at the same price.

The Spyderco to which I linked will be much better for cutting cardboard boxes. You could argue the differences in steel back and forth all day long, but BD1N is no slouch and the Para 3 provides a much better gripping surface than the Elementum. And the Spyderco Para 3 is completely fine as an EDC even in an office setting. The BD1N of the Spyderco is also much easier to sharpen than S35VN which may or may not be important to people new to knives.
This isn't a knife group. But I like to share my knowledge so that people who are new to knives can use it to make their own, educated opinion.
I think the Elementum is overrated. If you actually read the entire thread, I said this version at this price is worth it.
I read this thread. Your "knowledge" on knives is garbage, as is your example and reasoning to try and make the Elementum seem overrated.
S35vn is not particularly difficult to sharpen. D2 is usually hardened to a higher HRC and considered harder to sharpen, but you just need the right tools. I've got expensive stones that do a great job, but do all my sharpening on a Work Sharp Guided Sharpener [amazon.com] these days. Great investment you can usually find for $25-$30. It's got coarse and fine diamond plates, a coarse/fine/fishhook rotating ceramic rod, leather stop and a small ceramic rod for sharpening serrations. It also has built in angle guides. If you can use a stone then this thing makes sharpening fairly easy.
