IFyou are willing to do this, YES.. but open it in store, turn on and make sure the dedicated gpu is working fine.
(I am typing on my G15 Advantage Edition now) these had a flaw of over applying the liquid metal which caused the liquid metal to work its way off the chip to the surrondings of the chip.. be cpu or gpu. Mostly GPU's.
So you would have people returning the laptops and stories that Bestbuy sold them as open box. (without poperly checking if GPU was shorted out).
What I did with my G15 Advantage Edition.. was straight after I took it out the box.. remove the back cover, disconnected battery.. removed ! sticker on the heat chamber and removed the head chamber. Exposing both CPU and GPU. then carefully and tediously removed ALL Liquid Metal. (there was a lot of it on the chips.. just flooded with the stuff).
Then I cleaned with rubbing alcohol 90 percent. Then re thermal pasted like a regular laptop desktop.
This swap out of Liquid Metal to regular thermal paste eliminates anything to do with over doing Liquid Metal. Problem solved.
Now, there were rebooting issues on these G15 Advantage Editions. After we (many forum threads including Discord ) finally got the issue passed onto the correct department of ASUS.. ASUS has put out 2 updates to resolve this issue. Yes, they are resolved.
One was " Hotfix " that installed a bios on the video card (vBios).. and the other was a Bios update.
After all this time from when the G15 Advantage Editions have been out, that has been fixed. Took a long time to sort out.
Now then, finally.. the RAM. You can get slow secondary timing RAM sticks, or fast.. luck of the drag. It was because of supply and demand and covid... ASUS put slow secondary timings in these models as well as regular secondary timing RAM.
It only has a 512 m.2 drive as well.
No dedicated MUX, BUT you can use USBc to Display port or HDMI cable to your external monitor. As long as you connect from USBc of the laptop, you are dedicated from the GPU 6800! So MUX switch results!
The battery on this is insane. 11 hrs just browsing web. You can dedicate programs to use the GPU like games.
There have been pictures of ASUS addressing the ' over flow of Liquid Metal ' issues by ' revisions' of protecting the surrounding of the chips by certain thermal tape applied. Looks slightly different then mine. Anyway, 100% remove the LM in either case.. it is only time where LM will cause an issue In My Opinion!
So, no, I honestly wouldn't recommend a open box.
Get the newer stock, chances are you have the revised thermal tape around the chips, and the secondary timings maybe faster on the RAM.

I'd be concerned about the heat and noise unleashed by a laptop rendering 300fps to make use of that 300hz screen.
There's a reason a lot of games have frame rate limiters, and it is usually to reduce heat and power consumption. When cooling is the limiting factor (which it absolutely always is on a laptop... hence the mobile GPU\CPU variants), reducing heat output can be essential to keeping consistent frame rates in games.
When cranking out the frames needed for high refresh rates, at some point you'll be generating heat to render frames you can't feel, and then the system will have to reduce boost or even throttle to keep within thermal limits, which creates performance drops you CAN feel.
I'd bet less than 1% of PC gamers can actually notice\feel over 144fps, and without frame rates to match your refresh rate (presumably, this would mean anything UP TO 300Hz using Freesync), the high refresh rate does nothing. You can render 100fps on a 300Hz display, and it will just be showing the same frames for 3 cycles at a time. With Freesync it would just be showing you 100fps at 100Hz... wasting the massive refresh rate cap you've paid for.
On desktops with plenty of cooling, sure... I want 1,000fps at 1,000Hz to get rid of all the sample-and-hold blurring, but when running a gaming laptop in 2021\2022 I'd be more concerned about maintaining over 120fps without throttling or making my ears bleed.
This laptop may still fit your use case completely, but if you're on the fence and wondering whether it's worth it to trade something else for a 300Hz display, it's food for thought.
EDIT: Forgot to acknowledge that the graphical settings and game are obviously also going to affect heat output. The issue is that more load on the GPU and CPU always generates more heat. Higher frame rates create a higher load with the same graphical settings. If today's e-sports titles comfortably run at 400fps without heating up your laptop (I have no idea), then I guess you're good to go. If next year's e-sports titles make your laptop throttle massively at anything over 200fps, then the higher refresh\frame rate may end up being a liability.

There will be less blur [blurbusters.com], but it only makes a difference if the high FPS can be maintained (unlike using a display with a strobed backlight), and for esports titles that is generally less important than responsiveness. Also, disabling vsync to unlock the frame rate completely for esports titles seems to be the most common way to reduce frame times and input lag, so the high refresh rate display has less benefit beyond 120-160fps or so with vsync off.
Anyway, this is probably still a great price on this laptop. It's good to have realistic expectations though. A few less milliseconds of frame latency or reaction time isn't going to turn someone into a "pro gamer". Training and consistency have a lot more to do with it. I don't have either, which is why I don't play e-sports titles.
