You can get windows laptops with 11th gen i5 or Ryzen 5 5500u processors with 8gb of ram, some with or without touchscreens with similar 250-nit IPS displays and more storage (256gb+) for almost this price exactly, and they've been around this price for a good month or more.
Why would you pay the same for a chrome-OS machine with a worse processor and less storage? Just look at the laptop deals on this site that have been posted in the past 30 days… what am I missing?

Two, if online work is all that you do then chromebook is best suited and this won't slow down for a decade. However, a windows laptop slows down considerably after a few years.
So a chromebook with i3 and 128gb storage would last you more than 5-6 years at least, a windows laptop with the same specs would most likely not.

2: Windows laptops have advanced on the hardware side dramatically in the last four years. A Ryzen 5 5500U isn't slowing down anytime in the next five years at the least. It's a 6-core 12-thread monster that demolishes even my old desktop i7 6700k in day-to-day use (and that thing still does just fine and it's getting quite old and a desktop CPU vs a low-power laptop CPU) .

And 3:
There is nothing any of those cheaper and more powerful windows machines can't do that a chromebook can, but a chromebook can only do maybe one-tenth the things a windows laptop can do -and past that, there's nothing stopping anyone from replacing windows with ChromeOS at any point in a device's life. It takes a $5 USB-drive and some patience, that's about it.
With that in mind you can find nearly-identically specced windows laptops as this Chromebook for far less money:

The whole idea that windows laptops slow down stems from over a decade of Intel ruling the laptop market and only giving customers access to the same shitty 14nm processors that maxed out at 4-cores and 8-threads and drew dramatically more power than today's modern Ryzen laptop chips. That notion is a dinosaur.

Again, I am not trying to shit on Chromebooks. I love them, they are simply to use, easy software easy and power wash. But the prices man...

I would rather pay $13 more for this chromebook than the Dell in your link, non touch only 4GB ram, and expired Besides this one is has a more solid build quality than inspiron class.
And I have plenty of the dells and other PC desktops and lappys. I want something different.

Speed is not unwelcomed, but if it contributes to a $450 price tag then yea it's a bit exensive.

I have 4 2021 windows laptops, but am still a majority chromebook user. At any rate, windows machines are used to do the same thing my Chromebooks are. And they don't do that better whatever you think of the value.
