I use these to locate shorts on circuit boards. They make short work of it, pun intended.

Checking for cold/hot spots in your home to see if the insulation is doing the job. That or ghost adventures.

Thanks for posting. Would be a killer deal if it was USB-C, but I do see that they are including a USB-C adapter with it. Would be cumbersome to use though...

I second the recommendation for Infiray instead of FLIR. Based on some research I found that Infiray (iray) was the top producer of microbolometers in China and most other companies were using their thermal sensors.

I got infiray T2L after trying FLIR one pro, and it is so much better. It has increased resolution and much improved refresh rate, it's really good for the price. I chatted with an inspector who had a $3-4K professional FLIR camera and it was on par/better for thermal sensitivity/resolution/refresh rate. I'm sure the professional grade ones may have features that are better than the lowest grade infiray, but T2 is a generation ahead of FLIR ONE based on the sensor. They say T3 or some of the spotting scopes are even better too, but 800-1000 was above my budget.

At this price FLIR is cheaper (I got T2l for ~320) so depends on your requirements. FLIR has a nice feature that combines visible light with IR to increase the resolution, but honestly you don't need it with infiray. Software is basic but perfectly fine for my purposes. I mainly use mine around the house for leaks, insulation, pipes etc. and some outdoor purposes, looking at animals, nature and so on. Super interesting.

Shucks like others said I'd be all over it if it was type c. Micro is way out-dated.
It comes with an adapter, but I think Amazon has one without it

Would this be good for Bigfoot hunting in the woods?
You probably could see Bigfoot taking a sneaky crap at night if it had it's back towards you and the wind was blowing your way..doh!

Seems like a standalone one may be better?

FLIR Imaging TRMS Multimeter FLIR DM166 ($299.99 w/ Free 2 Day Ship) - multimeter with built-in thermal imaging
which use 3 AA battery with screen and multimeter may be a decent deal?
For occasional use, FLIR DM166 may last much longer than rechargeable battery one that require smartphone compatibility. Who know when FLIR will stop support FLIR One Pro (and/or APP) for future smartphone. Not to mention micro usb plug can easily bent and may not last long. How many Micro USB cable that no longer charge well because of problem with the plug after using it for a while....

Can the battery inside replaceable? I think I read somewhere the FLIR One devices doesn't use the phone to power the device so if the battery inside FLIR One Pro is out of power, then you need to recharge it before can use it again...(?)
I can't comment on this version, but I have the Flir One Gen 3 for Apple and you can plug it into a USB-C battery pack and keep using it even if its built-in battery dies.

and waiting 5 to 7 years to call the contractor to rip the walla down so can staple in a few patches.. the cost to do that coupled with the cost of the camera..... I'm a fan of ignorance is bliss

Does the T2L have its own camera or use the phone's camera? From what I could find it does use the phone's battery, so at least it then shouldn't have the battery issue that the FLIR has...

I'm an auto tech, and I use mine to check rear defroster grids and seat heaters, and I might use it to look for a a short or high resistance in a circuit. It's really cool and somewhat handy to have around. You can sort of see through your walls at home too. You can see where all the heat ducts are, and see all the studs in the walls. I broke down and bought a type C connector one.
You can really clearly see the studs?

That would actually be really useful

T2L doesn't have a battery or a visible light camera, just uses the phone for that. It's tiny (size of a quarter), smallest model. Some of the other models may have their own cameras. Its app is less developed than FLIR, but can record pic-in-pic using the back camera, works more or less fine.

Since it doesn't have a battery, it won't have any battery life issues. But one thing is, if it gets momentarily disconnected due to wiggling in the usb-c port then the app crashes, takes 2-3 seconds to restart. I got a tight fitting usb-c extender to use with the case for my phone, it doesn't have the extendable usb connector FLIR has, so that's one negative.
