So if it's cold now, that means its seeds are in the ground just waiting for the soil to warm up again.
Using a pre-emergent like this stuff will (if applied correctly) stop the seeds from germinating, meaning you won't get a new crop of crab grass next lawn season.
All that to say, if you battled crab grass last season and are looking to prevent it, you can still attempt to do so. You're not doomed to have crab grass every year because you've had it the year previous.
You will likely get better coverage/results at a cheaper per-application cost, but you will have to pay more upfront to buy the pre-emergent and then store it. Not everyone is comfortable with this "DIY" route though, so the Scotts product still has its place.

This was $7 on clearance at my local Walmart in the fall and I missed it. Everything sells out quick with this inflation. $17 is still better than full price in the spring.
Correct. You'll want to put this down early spring after the first full week when you start to see some 60 degree temperatures
Was $5 at my local Walmarts recently. Loaded up last fall at $5 a bag so didn't need more.

Once the crabgrass has started to spread, it's nearly impossible to get rid of
Should've been called "roach grass"
Used it a couple years ago and had a great looking lawn that year. Just make sure you don't apply before heavy rains within a day or two. I applied this in the spring this year and the next day it rained very hard and I had a lot of crabgrass and weeds this year.
Correct
It's too late if you already have crabgrass. You need to spot spray or hand remove them.
