I screwed this onto my trekking pole so I can use my point-n-shoot camera, but this monopod seems more versatile. However I'm not sure about these Outdoor Products' reliability.

The design appears to block the rear screen of your camera which is the sole method of setting up a shot on most point and shoot cameras. Few of such cameras offer a viewfinder. Even my Olympus Pen only offers a viewfinder as an optional attachment.
I currently use a monopod as a walking stick/camera support. Unfortunately, I have to disassemble it to stow it in my luggage.

So now the human virus that has infected the planet is buying synthetic sticks? Are you for real? This is for those stupid morons that like to go out somewhere and pretend to be at one with nature, yet they show up with the camper hooked up to a Wi-Fi signal and satellite Internet, bring along an entire battery-operated kitchen and even buy farking plastic sticks. You are not at one with nature, and taking a picture of yourself in nature is an embarrassment and a disgrace.
I wonder how many people that start out with the goal of taking "outdoorsy" photos for insta-cred wind up genuinely becoming interested in nature and hiking.. 😮

This is a stick. It takes a selfie. Selfie stick.
lol.. if you use it as selfie stick you can get pictures of sky or downward ground.. but you can't take your picture with front or back camera..

Does the threaded bit sticking out of the top get in the way at all? Or do you cover it when not in use?
It does stick out a tad. I do have a piece of rubber I screw over it, however the camera mount usually stays mounted 99% of the time
