It's decent for SATA

I have 2.5" bays in my computer and no more nvme slots. You barely notice the difference real world launching things from nvme vs SATA, it's mostly for benchmarks. There are loads of blind youtube tests confirming this.

LOL, so I can get 120MB/s and 10ms latency over 1GbE vs 450MB/s and 0.1ms latency over SATA III?

The purpose is all those computers that don't have NVMe slots. If you have one do use it.

What should I do if I've maxed out all my PCI-E and NVME slots?

Yeah, I don't see the purpose in sata SSDs anymore. You're better off paying another $30 for a 2TB NVME.
For data storage or games, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the speeds. For a primary drive I'd get nvme if available, but if it's a second drive, whatever's cheap

Anyone know how this compares to the mx500?
Not a perfect comparison since the Patriot only has so few samples but the MX500 is one of the better SSDs out there. It's not the best of the best but it's been great for me, I have one in my PS4 and another in my desktop.

How about, 'not everyone has NVMe'?

Good deal for some people with older chipsets and just need storage at a good speed

I was incorrect: there is no cache.

THERE IS NO CACHE, but the specs mention the use of both TLC and QLC memory. IIRC, MX500 is all TLC with DRAM.

Buy NVME and put it in an adapter or housing for any other port you have left.

They other poster is correct. These are useless.

And later down the road if you outgrow the size of the NVME you pop it our of the housing and convert it to an external drive or something portable and you always have double or triple the speed.
That is one option. However, if you use a PCIe adapter, you then steal PCIe lanes from your other components.

See #87 & 233 on:
https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...uuQva2gT4/

The 2.5" SATA III Crucial MX500 is a better drive.

This Patriot is a budget, lower-tier, DRAM-less SSD.
