My situation is that I have 4-lines on Simple Choice family Plan and 5th free line that I need to switch to Magenta Max plan.
2. No
However, I do feel the biggest benefit for Magenta Max is the upgraded offers for trade in of iphones. I know a lot of people say they dont care about new phones, but I think if they're going to offer you a great deal, why not take it. Trading in a 2-3 year old phone seems to be the sweet spot and gives you max value. I always feel like any deal worth more than $400 in credits is a great deal. I think this year's deal is worth almost $700 which in my opinion is unrealistically high and bound to come down next year.
If you upgrade 4 lines on Magenta Max, you get $500 back in credits with the current iphone trade in. If you did it on a Magenta or lower, you'd get $200. So an extra $300 in trade in value is almost worth it even just for a single line. Once you start doing 4 lines, then you're looking at a $1200 difference over 2 years in exchange for an extra $384 over 2 years. ($16 per month x 24 months).
If you value netflix at all, that subsidy is worth something as well.
Tmobile seems like they're doing all they can to drive everyone to Magenta Max. The best deals are for those people and will continue to be like that for most likely the next iphone release in September.
Adding the 20% insider code really makes it a sweet deal. If some day those free lines ever come back, it'll make these insider code plans even more valuable.

I did a chat with T-Mobile (TForce) and I don't think they really understood. They gave me a price of $220/mth ($200/mth with autopay) and explained that the 4-line from family plan would go to Magenta at $170/mth with 3rd line free and the moving the 5th line would become a paid line making the plan $220/mth. I don't think they realize or know that the free line should come over to the Magenta plan still as a free line.
Its so difficult when every customer service person has their own interpretations of the rules.
I'm not sure I understand why they needed you to add another line to your account. Is that to get the code for the 20% off?
But that's what happened
Hmm, that would be strange that the 20% discount, that is applied to your whole account, would be attached to a single line. But who knows what games these reps play. As long as your happy with what you are paying then its all good.
