A kinetic recovery strap provides a mechanical advantage to allow you to do more with less, that is its ONLY advantage, convert your momentum into additional force. To imply they are safer is misleading. Rated break strength is rated break strength. When they do fail, it is more hazardous because of that buildup of kinetic energy in the strap. Shoot a rubber band with your finger and shoot a loop of string with your finger. The rubber band is far more impressive. Not every recovery operation requires a true kinetic nylon stretchable strap and a build up of momentum with a running start to get the target unstuck.
Those are no where NEAR $8.

i think the husky is described as working load limited. The WLL is typically 1/3 of the breaking strength rating, so husky would be 21k
you could also put one end around the tow hook like you say and put it INTO the hitch of the tow vehicle, and put the pin through the loop. again.. for ditch recovery only.
imo, the best thing to do is get a pair of properly rated shackles to go with it. infinitely better than hooks.

That 20,000 pounds advertised is Breaking Load. Working load would be 1/3; around 6,666 pounds.
