I agree a few months ago I bought a ps3 controller that stated it was Sony branded and it turned out to be fake and then trying to return the item was horrible experience. I will NEVER buy from them ever again!

For security cameras what you want are the Endurance SD Cards. Like these:

Do micro SD cards decay/die?

Is it better to use a hard drive or micro SD as backup drive?

Newegg charges restocking fee, and implements stringent return policy.

MicroSD cards should never be used for important backups.. invest in an internal SSD and a cable instead.

If you back up to this micro SD card, you need to back those data on a hard drive, too. If you already back up to a hard drive, you can back up either to another hard drive or a micro SD card. Always have at leas two copies of your important data. If it's 007 movies, for example, I don't care. If I lose the movie, so be it.

As the cost of storage still very high, I would do the "tier" backup. The majority data is not worth back up. Only the most important data gets back up. I would use a hard drive instead of a SSD due to again, the cost.

If it fits and it formats, it WILL work. However its life span may or may not meet your expectations.

Do you mean external SSD?
I avoid keeping important stuff on my computer and keeps my backups of multiple flash drives. It's portable and only available when I need it. Having it on my computer all the time puts the data at risk.

When doing recovery, I've had little luck restoring files that were corrupted on flash media. Usb flash drives and these sd cards can and will degrade over time, although they are significantly better than they once were. It can be said SSD's also have this issue, but again there have been noticeable improvements over the years.

With that said, I prefer doing all my backups with HDD's first. Hard drive disks, if stored and handled correctly have a low failure rate when used strictly as infrequently accessed storage. Additionally, file recovery tools, if needed, are more easily available. The media is also much cheaper. I would purchase the full size hard drives, not the smaller portable laptop size drives strictly because those are also more prone to failure. Not that it matters to much but I would avoid shingled drives, which condenses the data, smaller drives don't really use that technology, but anything over 6 terabytes is starting to include it. Something in the 4 to 6 TB range is more than enough for most people and should cost over $100. I would back up everything on it, then put it away somewhere safe, since the biggest source of failure is dropping them.

If you just need a simple backup, that is small, portable, but not essential files, I would go with the portable SSD. In this case, you're probably only saving 500 gigabytes (half a terabyte) for the same price as the HDD, and might be using it infrequently. These don't have issues with dropping, but rather bit rot, although if bought from a reputable manufacturer, should be negligible.

In both cases, having no backup is better than no backup, and portability and cost will possibility influence your buying decision. If you're storing lots of data for years, go with the desktop hard drive disk (hhd). If you're storing smaller amounts of data, and are more interested in portability, and will frequently access it, then use the solid state disk (ssd). I would always avoid flash drives and sd cards for important backups unless I had no other option, in that case backup online if possible. This is just my opinion from experience over the past 25 years, I hope it helps though.
