It is long, but they review another floorstanding speaker.
Audioholics Forum discussing these speakers [audioholics.com]
One interesting thing is that Dennis Murphy did a crossover mod for these. I cannot find it anywhere, but if anyone is interested in contacting him, info can be found at his website Philharmonic Audio. [philharmonicaudio.com] Dennis Murphy is very well known for his crossover designs in higher end speakers.
The Jamo S 809's have been $199 for a pair and have WAY better build quality as an FYI. They're even cheaper if you buy them via the 5.1 bundles listed on SlickDeals.
If you're interested in a similar alternative to this speaker, "Dayton Audio T652" is similarly priced (can find for $150 on Parts Express atm) and sized.
I've never heard these and I'm sure they sound fine for the price of $120- but these things look super light and not that attractive. Not a fan of the look but it's pretty interesting in design with the ribbon tweeter.
Is this actually true?

Yes lol

Basically you need a high end amp or flagship AVR to drive a pair of speakers that aren't built to handle 100 watts. They're either protecting a very inefficient, weak tweeter, or used a very poor crossover that sucked the efficiency out of this build. Think twice before buying these if you have a sub $1000 receiver or amp/pre-amp.

Good catch. 86db is pretty terrible. It will take a lot of power to drive them but they can't handle that much. I wouldn't expect them to go loud.
if someone has a lot of room and wants to have speakers that will have a lot of solid bass than im not sure if its possible to beat these for the price (beyond getting some like plastic PA speakers with 15" woofers.) read the audioholics review and watch the youtube. take note of their suggestions, toe these in heavily because the extremely wide and even polar response means the sweet spot will be big and you want to decrease room reflections/room energy
edit: also if you guys read the review it measures at 88.2 dB for 2.83v at 1 meter.
it should be noted that FACTORY sensitivity measurements are like contrast ratio measurements, its not certified by anyone. only when one reviewer measures multiple speakers do you have a levelset. you can also game it by saying 1 watt instead of 2.83v, and make it appear that the speaker is more sensitive than it is depending on the impedance of the speaker. an equally important part of sensitivity is the power handling of a driver, which is related to its motor structure (suspension attached to a voice coil inside a magnet.) Two 6.5" woofers have the same area as a 9" woofer, but because its spread out over two motor structures that means these will be able to take way way more voltage than a small bookshelf 5" driver that might measure 90db at 2.83v. theres definitely floor standing speakers that get louder given the same cabinet size but if you spend $200 on a very tiny bookshelf speaker and expect it to have more bass than this then you dont understand physics
planar tweeter also can take a ton of wattage and not give up, 88db is not a problem as you can pump voltage and theres no motor structure to get fried
$400 per pair.
To those considering, watch the video, though kind of hard to watch these guys. The first 30 minutes or so is on this speaker. But at least read the review, and look at the measurements and note the suggestions. The response is remarkably good for this price range. But what is really crazy is that this response carries through to various angles. At 85 degrees, basically on the side of the speaker/nowhere near in front of it, it measures very close to the same as if you where directly in front of the speaker. Where can one find that for $60 a speaker/$120 pair?
