WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

You don't need to as long as you don't do a factory reset on your iPhone. If you do do a reset you will have to go through the process again and by this time the old RSIM you used 5 months earlier may not work and you have to get a new one. Apple always fixes these loopholes and the RSIM people always develop new RSIM to circumvent the fix

if apple fixes the RSIM 'workaround', those should come as OTA iOS updates
but you are saying that RSIM unlock survives iOS updates
if the only thing it does not survive is factory reset, it has to be something different that RSIM does on a handset level that sticks between iOS updates such as fooling the handset the existing SIM is somehow the SIM that it is locked to - and this gets erased on a factory reset.

in the end it does not make a difference but the process of what an RSIM can survive tells us where/how it works

mine looks like new with 100% battery health, the display looks legit and not replacement one. Only issue I had was they sent me one with a TracFone sim card. I used the White Sim unlocked card for around $6-7 and it seems to work fine for me under TMO. Group text also works too, it didn't when I used the RSim 15.
Both my new & refurb TW phones have come with sims marked TF, it's the same company & they use the same sims.

Mine have NOV21 in them and they work fine. This is a Tracfone company site and they are notoriously poorly managed.

I can confirm it works with verizon. Just used it on an at&t phone.
Cool, I didn't know that. Usually the RSIM sellers on Ebay warn it won't unlock for CDMA networks.

I wasn't able to get it to work with red pocket CDMA (I.e. Verizon). So YMMV with the MVNOs.

Good to know it's probably a user error if it doesn't work for some users.

Yeah I have no idea how everything works and I'm not going to try to figure it out. I just know within the last 3 years (I only started using RSIM since then so it could be earlier) when they have the multiple-use RSIM, I'm able to unlock iPhones for GSM use (mainly T-Mobile and its MVNOs). All those phones work passed iOS updates. During their usage, the phones never had to be "re-activated". I had to reset one phone once and got the invalid sim error; I did have to buy another RSIM to get that iPhone to activate again since the previous RSIM no longer works. If you follow any SD thread that mentions RSIM, the same "it will stay unlocked until you factory reset it" condition applies when using an RSIM; this is not new, that's all I'm saying. I'm just accepting it and don't care why. I'm an Android user and I used to root my phone and install custom ROMs 8 years ago; I'm not into that anymore since I care about security and just can't trust custom Roms any more; I use Samsung and Android Pay also so rooting and custom roms are a no no.

I don't know the difference with the different RSIMs out there, don't care as long as it unlocks the iPhone for use and it can survive iOS updates. If Apple forces an iPhone to be re-activated after each OTA update the RSIM product is screwed.

It's an Apple activation process. It has historically survived iOS updates and upgrades OTA. If you ever have to hit the Apple activation server again it will lock. Resetting the phone or backup and restore/update through iTunes will cause that. Sure, they could force activation with OTA updates, but they haven't thus far.
