WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

I agree with you, I'm planning in activating 1st with TW then try the RSIM process to eventually use it on T-Mobile either now or in 60 days.
Where you able to get the rsim unlock to work after activating it on TW? Wonder if it would cause issues if you activate it with TW first the use the rsim.

Working fine on T-mobile.

I think he might concerned that using the rsim could mess up the legit 60 day unlock from TW. I don't think it would, but no experience with trying that.

it shouldn't affected. just activate the TW sim, make a test call. TW will have record of it. Just dont try to put that TW sim in another phone.

I need an iPhone strictly to play music connected to a DAC over Wi-Fi only.
So I can purchase this one, only pay for the one month of service and then never again?

I only need the device, I already have an iPhone which I hate using with my system because then I can't "use" the phone while is with the DAC/Audio System.

I was already planning on buying a used iPad/iPhone on eBay used but this is way cheaper.

Thank you!!
Don't see why not. Just activate the phone to get the 60-day unlock clock going. Leave the SIM card in the phone and just use wifi. Put it in airplane mode with wifi enabled to get longer battery life.

Care to elaborate? Did you move from another carrier to T-MO? Is T-Mo giving a bill credit of $800 per phone now?
Correct. For certain phones, the xr works. And if you're on magenta max.

Well this is good question. I would love to know this as well. If anyone ever tried like this.

If they follow same check, they will. But just one store, the others haven't started to check the model match yet. At some point, I think they all will do it as these XRs are flooding them atm. They can easily check the model match in their system just the model number is an optional input right now. One of my local store asked me why so many XRs got traded in, they have processed over 20 for the past couple days already. All same model same color of course.
Its at their discretion.

I was trading in my iPhone 12 Pro through best buy (a t-mobile trade) for the iPhone 13 Pro. I accidentally selected the wrong color but that resulted in a mismatched model number.

The guy initially said he couldn't process it but his manager came and said it didnt matter as long as i was still bringing in an iPhone 12 Pro with the same capacity.

I think the applies here but i see why junior staff would probably reject it. Maybe speak to a manager, but again, its probably at their discretion.

I think the issue is for certain people like myself, would prefer original display and oem parts over anything. I use original parts for my car too. Total Wireless could have done better by simply putting a language like battery, camera, Face ID or screen could be restored with 3rd party parts. Although they have no obligation to do so, it will just avoid any potential dissatisfaction. Since I already purchased the phone, it's ok and I just move on and will try to enjoy it by pretending i don't know the parts.
Or stick to buying new phones if you're that particular about parts. The TW iPhone 11 deal is for a new, non-refurbished phone. Might be a better fit for you.

I don't get why some people are unhappy and talking about parts that are replaced. This is a refurb, nobody guarantees that the parts will be original (do you get original part when you wreck your car?).

The deal is great if not happy with the phone, return it and move over.
There are thousand of phones on eBay/ third part sites and I am sure most of us have bought there - what about these.. and i personally feel there is nothing wrong TW did they have also mentioned refurbished and there are 1000'a who have bought.. there are always going to few who will have a bad time does not mean to generalize the whole lot .. as long as it works and looks new … move on

Is anyone concerned about this in the fine print of unlock policy?

"Customers are eligible for this program only once every twelve months"

I know TF/TW previously had same phrase in the old policy and it looks like cut & paste, but if they enforce it some phones may not be able to get unlocked at 60 days.
