This is the cheapest price for post COVID. The cheapest price pre-COVID was around $925-975. During COVID, ths generator was hard to find (out of inventory) and the price were as high as $2K. Finally the prices are slowly coming down.

$1005 not bad for covid prices, inventory shortages, and monetary inflation.

this item shipped in a month though. Warning: This item is not returnable on Amazon.

For folks looking, this is a nearly identical unit for cheaper.

https://wenproducts.com/products/...-compliant

I have the 875i with about 5hrs on it (a few breakin and a few running critical circuits during an outage) and haven't had issues. I do have the magnetic dipstick though.

Both are nice, holding off for dual fuel sale.

Its odd this unit (and the slightly smaller 6250 watt model) are only available on Amazon. I'd like to get one but generally I prefer to buy larger appliances from one of my more local big box stores in the event I need to return it. Easier returning it to Lowes or Home Depot than Amazon, that's for sure.

I'd be hesitant to buy a Wen for something I really need to rely on. Have Wen become a trusted brand now? I haven't really heard much about them. I do have a smaller Champion 3500W generator and it has been rock solid. I only have 220 hours on it but it has started 1st or 2nd pull the dozen or so times I have needed it the past decade.

I'd trust WEN as much as I would Champion, these days.

Upsides:
Inverter with high wattage.

Downsides:
Not dual fuel or tri-fuel
High wattage but limited to 120V and 30 amp plugs
Open frame and 72db (WAY, WAY louder than traditional 61db 4650 watt models)
Much worse fuel consumption.

The only reason to buy this generator, is of you need inverter clean power, don't care about being able to run on propane, and require higher wattage than 4650 peak. Because the same money gets you a dual fuel 4650 watt model that runs on propane, and sips fuel.

It isn't limited to 120v/30 amp. It has a 240v outlet, should be able to get 240v/30 amp out of it.

And wen arrives in three days while this one ships in one to two months

Now you have me looking closer at Wen! I see they are 2 yr warranty compared to Champion's 3 year. I do know I have received outstanding support from Champion including extremely knowledgeable technicians with some pretty advanced understanding of the internal workings of the generator. How is Wen's support? I tried to look up where their authorized service centers are located but no way to do so. I'd feel better knowing one of them was close.

Anyone understand how the ECO mode works? Wen says it has a switch to turn it on. I assume the Champion ECO mode is enabled all the time no reference to a switch.

I too have the Wen 875i. Added conversion kit. Now I can use gas, lp propane, lp NG, high pressure propane. This gen set is the best bang for the buck.

It shows in the picture, it's a switch. The generators are pretty much identical except the front panel (and the WEN is a floating neutral where the champion is bonded).

I haven't had to deal with WEN's service team yet but they do have parts available for purchase on their website which is rare for a generator/small motor.

If it isn't obvious to folks, it's the same factory that churns these out and they put a WEN or champion flair with the outsides and that's about it.

Does WEN and Champion require the same quality out of the factory? Who knows but WEN's reviews on generators are pretty high. Some of their other power tools aren't stellar but I think they have been focusing on their productive generator market.

My other generators:

Honda 2200i
Pulsar 2200?
Champion 2500 watts dual fuel
Wen 3800 watt inverter
Generac 3500 inverter

Why so many, I couldn't decide what I wanted/needed but so far my WEN's have ran as well as the Honda and champion which I wouldn't say is true of the pulsar. Generac I haven't decide yet.

Did you do the simple carburetor swap or the overpriced full blown conversion kit?

Suggest reading through the WEN thread. I even posted a video of the WEN in operation.

Their tech support is a small group based in...Indiana? I needed a new fuel gauge and they sent one with no hassle. It's a small operation and quite obviously the Champion, WEN and Harbor Freight are all the same thing. So buy the cheapest one.

The biggest reason WEN is cheaper is because of the general perception that WEN is somehow a lesser brand than Champion. I got my WEN GN875i in ~October directly from WEN for $811 with free shipping, which was a prior SD.

It's 240v/30A
You can install a motor snorkel for NG/Propane if you really want
It has throttles down to eco automatically as needed which saves fuel and is much quieter

For an at home generator I think most people would suggest slightly more than you need vs less. This thing could start a smaller/newer central A/C in the right conditions and just about any A/C with a soft start device.

There is a switch on the Champion also. You can leave it on Eco for 95% of use cases but if you know you are going to need to start something that would require very high starting amps you can turn it off and it will throttle up.

Eco will start fridge compressors and all the usual stuff no problem.
