This would be have been an even better deal if Google Fi supported esim on these Samsung phones, but as far as I can tell it is not yet supported.
If the sim isnt in the s21, you dont get credit. They changed it to be active, meaning, you are actually using the account
You will instead lose the $400 savings and be charged that at 4 months. You will need to use fi for the 4 months.

I ported into FI to get the $100 credit which I should be getting soon(starts second month) + $20 referral
Unlocked S21 for $400 sounds pretty good...
For premium phones, that time is now doubled to 120 days and the phones are still pricey. After 120-days, you may have a cheaper price for S21 elsewhere. Unless someone is planning to use Google Fi, this may not be that slick. My $0.02.
My cheapest was 25 and that was with 1gb data I think 20 for the line. So 500 w tax total I paid for the phone technically.

Idk where you're finding it cheaper with no contract or 24 month finance credit but. Four month on a Google Fi number, cancelling then going back to your main line like I did was a great option for me at least because I wanted the phone but not at 800 and not being stuck with your reg carriers
I mean great deal skills I guess but that's alot more turn around than this.haha
Cannot say enough terrible things about Fi. Incompetent from understanding their own plans to screwing up billing. In 5 months of service I've wasted more time dealing with them than I have combined over my other 25 years of having a plan on other carriers. People warned me about how awful Fi is. I should have believed them.
It would have to be discounted way more before I would even consider recommending this to a family member or friend.
Secondly, when the data price was high, they offered to provide data at anytime you wanted but charge only for what was used as opposed to buying a pre allotted amount of data regardless of whether you use it or not. Now with the data prices having come down a lot, this is of no relevance.
Third and most useful for international travelers is the data option extension to literally to almost every place in the world for the same price as in US. The data would work the moment the plane lands on any foreign soil and priced at the same price as in US. Of course you can get a local SIM wherever available but this would be after you go and buy one. So, I would say that this is still a very great option. But here again new alternatives have sprung up like Airalo etc. that offer international data at a very reasonable price
