Great deal if Google Fi works for you and plan on keeping the connection for 4 months.

This would be have been an even better deal if Google Fi supported esim on these Samsung phones, but as far as I can tell it is not yet supported.
Nope wont work.

If the sim isnt in the s21, you dont get credit. They changed it to be active, meaning, you are actually using the account

You will instead lose the $400 savings and be charged that at 4 months. You will need to use fi for the 4 months.
eh wish the pixel 6 was on sale instead :/

My cheapest was 25 and that was with 1gb data I think 20 for the line. So 500 w tax total I paid for the phone technically.
Thanks. First glance I thought $20 for unlimited call/text and 10gb is super nice until I realized its $10 for each gb. Did not find it worth even after considering 100gb storage drive plan.

Just as a reference, Fi ran a BF promo for the S21 Ultra 5G at $600. I think the regular S21 was $400-$500. November 2021.

The promo works with the $20 subscription. Keep in mind they charge mobile data separately and your bill may be higher than that ($10/1GB). You're supposed to keep the line active for 120 consecutive days, otherwise you'll get charged the full price of the phone. Rule of thumb: leave the SIM in the phone for the duration of the promo.

S21 does have eSIM + physical SIM, but eSIM is not currently supported with S21 series. With the latest Android 12 update, the S21 does brings back support for eSIM.
Fi works great for overseas travel. Keep in mind your line can get suspended if you use it outside the US for more than 30/90 days (I think).

Just my 2 cents. I have had Fi for about 2 years now. I have not had any issues with the service or anything else. I have it just as a backup carrier, and for my my LTE Surface on trips. The best thing about Fi for me is that you can get a data only SIM for no additional monthly fee. Yeah, I know the data rates are high, but if you only need to use it every once in a while, it is not terrible.

Just canceled my Fi service today. Was on a subscription for the 5a but Fi was so atrocious that I'm willing to lose the $200 credit you get with the sub.

Cannot say enough terrible things about Fi. Incompetent from understanding their own plans to screwing up billing. In 5 months of service I've wasted more time dealing with them than I have combined over my other 25 years of having a plan on other carriers. People warned me about how awful Fi is. I should have believed them.

It would have to be discounted way more before I would even consider recommending this to a family member or friend.
I agree 100%

I have a number via Google Voice. Does anyone know if porting that number over to Fi and using it with the phone from there-on after will satisfy the requirements of this deal?

Also, what is the idea behind eSims? That would mean you don't need to physically replace the SIM to change your phone number? If so, is only a major carrier able to do this, or can you opt to use a prepaid SIM and get it configured on your phone? Thanks.

The last part is incorrect. I have used FI overseas for more than that duration and nothing happened. Unless there are some other rules to that.

That means you got lucky and didn't get flagged by Fi. Be careful about it. The typical way to keep your US line is to switch to Google Voice until you get back to the US. This is somehow a workaround for people living overseas for a long time (look it up on the expats groups).

FYI. There's people who got their accounts suspended over that. Look it up on reddit.
Fi does mention this in the T&C's:
https://fi.google.com/about/tos/#...ork-policy

"The Services are offered only to residents of the United States. The Services must be primarily used in the United States (territories not included) and are not intended for extended international use. Further, the Services are designed for use predominantly within our network. If your usage outside our network is excessive, abnormally high, or cause us to incur too much cost, we may, at our option and sole discretion, suspend your Google Fi account, terminate your service, or limit your use of roaming."

You can get data that work internationally or local on selected markets over eSim. Check out services like Airalo etc.

Thank you! 'You learn something new every day.' Yes, based on this I might got lucky or maybe because my usage was super low, it didn't come up as a high usage on their system. I'll keep that in mind.

i spoke with someone from google fi and asked. they said it will satisfy the porting requirements. the only thing it doesn't work on is google fi porting to google fi.

can someone else confirm this? coz $400 is a lot of money

You are smart to ask others for their experience. Fi support is clueless about their plans. I was given information on their subscription service that was flat wrong, twice. Would have cost me hundreds.

Samsung Galaxy S21 5G has a new low price of $299.99 on Google Fi.

It is a great price for an awesome phone and Google Fi is the only service that provides LTE speeds for data while roaming overseas, which is very helpful if you are a frequent traveler.

Ya saw it this morning... I have $100 promo I got by porting in a number a month ago. This will satisfy 120 day requirement. $299 for unlocked S21 is a great deal!
