In order to get it working directly with SmartThings hub and not use the Hue hub you have to add a custom device handler, which is very simple to do if you follow the instructions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z...4TYU&t=96s

* In the video he was able to Scan nearby and "see" the motion sensor as a thing. When I did it recently, it was automatically added to an Unassigned Room and I never saw a thing listed. I spent a lot of time factory resetting the sensor thinking it was broken or not working. If you don't see it when you scan, check your unassigned room.

I believe these hue motion sensors are getting an upgraded model soon/have already.

Could they be clearing stock or is this the new model?

Still expensive IMO *Looks at the 75+ hue lights and accessories I already have*
I use these to connect directly to SmartThings hub, so you don't need to have a Hue Hub for automation. Just need to scan the device, then change the device's type on the SmartThings Groovy IDE website.

You can see instruction on Youtube under "Setup Your Hue Motion Sensor With Samsung SmartThings"

To save someone's time, because I was really confused when setting it up the first time. When scanning nearby, it didn't find any devices, and I thought it wasn't working. What happened was as soon as I took the battery plastic tab off, it auto added to the SmartThings when clicking on Scan nearby. It will be listed under unassigned room as a thing.

The way I use mine...I have a metal vanity mirror in the bathroom, so I put this in there so the lights in the bathroom go on when someone walks in, no need to mess with the switch. There is a timer for how long it doesn't detect motion at which point the two stage (first dim, then off) kicks in. Because my forgetful family members forgot to turn off the lights. They can also turn the lights off manually with the Lutron Aurora switch.

I live in an apartment so there's little other use I could apply this for without it getting annoying.
Can this be set to only detect motion after sunset?

As others mentioned this is good for turning lights on then setting a timer to dim and then turn off the lights after a short period. They cut back on electricity is a wash as I end on putting these up in halls. 80% of the time I wouldn't have used a light anyways but now it always comes on but will shut off after a shirt period. If anything it's more useful for house guests and kids

The Hue Motion really shines if you don't use it with the Hue Hub. Use it to connect directly to a SmartThing Hub or Hubitat. Then you can really fine-tune to however you like with conditions.

For example: Even if motion is detected, but This light is on, then do nothing. Or only turns on between this time and that time.

I have my under cabinet light to come on after midnight, but only if the kitchen or nearby lights aren't already on. Then after detecting no motion for 1 minute, then turn it off.

Are you running more than one base unit? By FAR my biggest frustration with Hue is the approximate 50 device limit (before things get unreliable). I'm currently having to use two separate base units and it kills a lot of the ease of use.

If they're focus a bit more in the horse before the cart (build a better base station), I'd be much happier.

Can anyone comment on what the benefit of this is over say a Zooz 4 in 1? I believe these run on Z-Wave correct?

Edit: Nevermind these are ZigBee.

It's 2 different application... you can't have the motion sensor registered to both, so you have to think about what you're trying to do in your home.

Is this sensor any better than the Samsung Smart things sensor? I am not a fan of the the Sammy Sensor whatsoever.

I have one at the top and bottom of my stairs (light strip under the stair railing and running along the upstairs hallway). I've been using them for about a year and the convenience is great - no need to use switches if hands are full. They dim and switch off after 60 seconds if no movement, which can be easily adjusted. The only downside is if the dog is ever up pacing around the hallway in the middle of the night.

Maybe he needs to go potty if he is pacing?

Why is this showing up as a hot deal? Isn't this just a run-of-the-mill zigbee motion sensor? You can get these for $10-15 each? The Ikea Tradfri brand ones are $12.

I had a similar problem with the motion sensor nightlight on the Nest Aware. If the dog was restless, she would set it off multiple times, and it's enough light to wake us up. Thankfully, we put some 4" memory foam in there from a discarded mattress pad (from parents), and she no longer leaves her bed at night.

Yes, Hue sensors are widely regarded as being one of, if not, the best motion sensor in smart home tech. If you're in the Hue ecosystem at all, they're a must buy at $30. They really do hardly ever go on sale.

I've literally never had a single one not respond properly. They have an immediate response & battery life seems great on them (haven't had any die in 2+ years).
