It will be 60 days and anyone that activated on 11/23 (when new policy went into affect) will be eligible for unlock according to the new policy. We should be able to verify what unlock policy actually is and if it is different from the generic info listed online.
its in their terms and conditions, i don't think there is much to worry about.

I think what we are waiting on is if you need to pay the 2nd month fee to get it it unlock on day 60 and of course does it really happen automatically without effort.

I bought a total wireless iphone from a previous deal. Have been trying to port my number for 4 days. It's like pulling teeth. Customer service at TracFone is atrocious. I am very technical, 30+ years in the IT field. I have done a lot of number ports and this one is definitely the worst. Wrong SPID they say. Escalation after escalation. Not hopeful at this point.

Way too much isn't included in the generic policy, it leaves a lot up to interpretation. I activated a phone on 11/30 so I'm very aware of what it says (& doesn't say). Even support is giving conflicting answers - no one knows if it's 60 days of active service or just activation & 60 days - it's up to Verizon to decide what they think qualifies and we have to go along with it. We won't know for sure what they allow until we get to 60 days after new unlock policy.

I just wish people wouldn't be so definite until we do know for sure, there may be a lot of unhappy people that come back with a "but you said it would unlock" when none of us really know anything more than anyone else right now.

So, can I get this deal, activate the SIM and throw an existing Visible SIM in it immediately, or after 60 days?
On what basis do you think a Visible sim will work on a locked TW phone?

Sorry if it's been asked. But can I use this phone with my Verizon SIM card I currently have a plan with now or do I have to wait for it to unlock??
In general, verizon locked phone will work with total wireless (or other verizon mvno) but not opposite.

Hypothetically after 60 days, it's just an unlocked Verizon phone...yes? Those typically work with visible (which is a Verizon MVNO).

That was under the old policy - there's no way to know how they will determine eligibility for unlock under new owner Verizon till after 1/23, though I expect new active phones with 60 days of service will be automatically unlocked. Still lots of questions about how service time & refurbs will be handled because it isn't spelled out in the policy.
We will know after 23rd. I'm not going to open the box will be still in 30 day return period.

might be better off to trade it in somewhere instead of returning, TF doesn't refund the $25 service card & you have to pay return postage - they also may have a restocking fee..

Yes, but different than your first hypo-

I was really listing 2 scenarios. So, you're opinion is that I'd have to activate with the TW SIM, and pay for 60 days of service, after which I can contact TW for them to unlock, at which point it would work with my existing Visible SIM?

At this point just activate using the included plan, by the time 30 days is up and time to pay next month service, someone here will know how it's does or doesn't work. Just be prepared to (potentially) add $25 to the total cost.

Stupid me. I activated online on December 23, so my current plan expiration date is January 22, a day before anyone could say for sure if a second month is really required. I guess I will just buy another month to be safe. Better safe than sorry 😐
