I realize most are looking to trade this phone in or use on Sprint for iphone 13 promo. But if I just wanted to buy to use on a different mnvo, would I just:
  1. insert sim it comes with
  2. activate with $25 prepaid plan card
  3. let phone sit and plan expire after 30 days
  4. wait another 30 days to unlock?
That's how the policy reads. It should be automatic for iPhones, too. No need to request the unlock.

There is also a statement, is there a minimum period of active service to unlock?

If you have not met the required minimum period of active TracFone service, TracFone may unlock your device, but you will incur a charge of up to $300, depending on how long your service was active prior to the unlocking request

That's for TFW.

We are talking about the Total Wireless part 🙄 which IS 60 days to unlock

Just so you know their lowest prices plan is $25 ($25x12 IS $300)

The word active is removed from the new 60 day policy, but still on the old 1 year one. I can't imagine they left that word out accidentally.

The policy is the same across all divisions.

2months.

The sims have an expiration date 🙂

But if you wish to unlock sooner than later, just activate right away to start the process
Hi - Do you know if this is the same (2-month expiration date for the SIM card) for Tracfone as well? I have a new phone with SIM that I ordered for my son and was waiting for his current plan to expire mid-Feb.

I was under the impression that the unlock policy (after 60 days of ACTIVE service) applies to both tracfone and total wireless; can someone clarify this please. TIA.

You can activate the TW phone on Tracfone anytime, don't need to wait for previous plan to expire.

First time I've heard there was a 2 month expiration date on TF/TW phones that use VZ. My SE 2 wasn't activated for at least 3-4 months & easily activated with 30 day plan.

69 days is for iPhones under the new TW policy.

The TFW policy requires 12 months of continuous service

Incorrect. 60 days after "activation". No service requirements mentioned. This matches Verizon's policy and they own the Tracfone/TW etc brands now, so anything activated on their network has to follow the policy per FCC agreements for LTE bands years ago.

Once again, there is no requirement of active service mentioned in the policy:

"If the TracFone device was activated with new service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, then:
1 at least 60 days must have elapsed since the device was activated.
2 The device must be in working condition.
3 The device has not been reported stolen or lost, and there are no indicators of fraud."

Clarification:

60 days for new phone activation after 11/23

12 months for phones activated before 11/23

Same policy for both TW & TF

Thanks! The SE I'm talking about is a new TFW phone with a new SIM and not related to this deal at all. After I posted this question, I pinged their CS on chat. Their response was "the SIM cards do expire but not in 3 months but more like 3 years." Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
