Someone posted the following comment in 'Black Friday iPhone deal thread'. Their Verizon iPhone Auto Unlocked on the 60th day.

"The most magical thing just happened guys. Today I woke up to a "No SIM Restriction" on a Verizon iPhone 13. So they do definitely unlock it automatically on the 60th day. I still have the Verizon line but it's in a "voluntary suspended )$10 a month)" status because I wanted to make sure it would unlock and I still had a line (I don't think keeping a line is necessary btw, I was just being extra cautious). All good. Everything turned out ok to my surprise!"

That's Tracfone proper, you can choose. Total Wireless has always been Verizon only and Simple Mobile is T-Mobile. The parent company of Tracfone (which VW bought) has these:

SIM options
Tracfone: ATT, T-Mo, Verizon
Total Wireless: Verizon
Simple Mobile: T-Mobile
Net10: ATT(now removed), T-Mo, Verizon
Pageplus: Verizon
Walmart Family Mobile: T-Mo
Straight Talk: ATT, T-Mo, Verizon

I've been doing this a while and know the ins and outs of TFW. Verizon may or may not force all brands to their network at some point. They also may consolidate the brands, but that's the rundown.

Happy to report that my refurb XR is unlocked. After seeing your message, I checked Carrier Lock and it indeed said No SIM restrictions. Activated my service on 12/23. Did not pay for 2nd month of service. Hooray!

This was a big scam. I had the new iphone and paid another $25 for service. The 611611 text says it is unlocked but the phone is not. I called the unlock number and after waiting 20 minutes got a guy who didn't speak English telling me I had to pay a lot of money because phone is locked for a year.
hang up, call again

Not a scam, just some glitches with not all phones unlocking automatically and some of their reps are clueless. Most users got auto unlock without a problem. Mine didn't unlock and I had to call twice to get it taken care of. It might take a few calls to get a rep who knows what to do. Don't waste your time on hold though … press 1 to use their auto-callback feature and the system will automatically call you back when it's your turn and a rep is available. Just save a screenshot with your IMEI or something so you have it handy when you get the call. Be polite, but firm and let them know your phone is definitely eligible for unlock and actually says it should already be unlocked, but don't waste time arguing if they clearly don't get it and just try calling back. Also, If they start throwing out the one-year thing, they don't understand the new policy and no point dealing with them further.

Yep … they tell you all the worst-case steps to take to get it going, but you generally don't even need to do that. I talked to the rep and the phone flickered and unlocked a couple minutes later with no restart or messing with SIM and a couple of others had same experience. But yeah, reboot can sometimes help if something gets stuck.

Look like someone talking about their XR, As I got Total Wireless 11, all come with iOS 15, on iOS 15 you don't have to do anything, unlock OTA you won't even feel something happens, but for XR it may come with iOS 13 or 14, it may require put different SIM in order to pop up activation process, that's how is old iOS getting current lock status contact with Apple server.

Mine is a refurb XR and it came through automatically after the call. I suspect it's just their default spiel to do the extra stuff because sometimes things are quirky and need to be kicked into gear. I've gotta admit I do something similar when dealing with computer updates for clients … tell them to reboot, even if it's unnecessary 90% of the time. Because it never hurts and it can be the trick needed to get it going in the unlikely event that it's not immediate. It saves dealing with a user calling right back only to tell them to reboot and that's all that's needed.

With mine, I had just hung up the call a minute or two earlier and the phone was still right next to me. The screen was dark, but lit up briefly almost as if a message came through. But there were no messages or missed calls, so I looked at the unlock status and saw that it was now unlocked.

Adding this for the data:

I purchased a new iPhone 11 and activated it on January 19. I did not purchase a second month of service. I checked the lock status a few times between March 18 and 21 and it was still locked. When I checked on March 22 at 11am eastern, it was unlocked.

Got the SE and paid for two months of service. Last day of service got the text it was unlocked. Took it to T-mobile that same day, and they put in a SIM but it didn't work. They said sometimes it takes 24 hours to update. I went back today and it worked just fine.

Try powering the phone off and back on and check. You could also try inserting a non-TW sim and see if it works. If still showing locked, you could also try a factory reset and set it up from scratch to force it to hit the Apple activation server. And I'd keep the phone connected to WiFi while trying those things..

Thank you for the advice, so I should connect to the WIFI to check the phone unlock status?

My iPhone unlocked automatically today on Day 60.

I received the text this morning.

I rebooted phone and it shows "no sim restrictions"

I paid for a 2nd month (text and voice only $10).
