I bought a python system that connects to the sink faucet - well worth the extra money. Gravel cleaning and water changes are MUCH faster, and no longer viewed as a time-consuming chore.

Those are better for larger tanks, wouldn't live without one when I had my 55 and 75 gallon tanks. For smaller tanks like my 40 breeders, these are perfect.
A priming pump is convenient, but it also adds some restriction to the flow. FYI, the mini is on sale as well. I like to use a small one for doing the actual gravel cleaning and getting between plants and what not and then use the larger one for the water change.

I have that as well for larger tanks. I have the one in this OP also but it has the pump. I now have a smaller tank in my kids room and it's less time consuming to use this small guy with the pump rather than pulling out my python (let's not think dirty here ) with it's 50ft hose and connecting it to a sink. For anything larger than, say 25-30 gallons I'd say the Python is a good investment (even at its crazy inflated price now), but for something smaller, something like the one in this OP is just fine, albeit with a pump to get the syphon going (I'm not putting anything in my mouth where the other end is connected to a tank filled with fish poop)
