No thanks. Going to stick with my regular chase freedom that has 5% for groceries up to $1500 this quarter.
I also highly recommend the Sears credit card. Got it years ago when buying some appliances at Sears and then didn't use it again before over a year later when they started doing cashback promos outside of Sears purchases. During the height of the pandemic they were having some amazing cashback promos like 20% back on $1000-$1500 monthly spend on gas/grocery/restaurants. The last one they had was 10% on $1000-$1200 spend monthly for Q4 of 2022. They didn't offer that this quarter, so I had to settle for the more limited chase freedom offer.

why is this better than Citi double cash card @ 2%?
or is it not?

If you have a premium UR point transfer and value travel/hotels then UR points are worth 2x. So that 1.5% is really worth 3% in this situation

FYI - most people think you are getting $300 back from $20,000 spend which is not the case. You get the regular 1.5% CB which is $300 and then an additional 1.5% CB so the total is $600 if you spend $20,000. Just look at it as 3% CB for the first year on anything, then some categories have a bigger CB %.

I signed up for this card today. However, i did it through my chase app on my phone. I scrolled down to explore all products. It showed i was pre-approved and it still had the $200 sub (which was the old deal). For those still interested but don't like this advertised deal I'd check your current account (if you have a chase account already).

I'm a bit confused. $200 for $500 spend is obviously good.

But for people who dislike this extra 1.5% deal, help me follow along.

Isn't "$300 cash back" actually "30k ultimate reward points"?

And each ultimate reward point used even half decently (partner transfers) worth 0.02¢ each?

Which means capping out at an extra 30k points = worth at least $600 in reward redemption for a daily driver card?

Why is chase converting all points cards to cash cards?

What does "an additional 1.5% cash back" mean? What is the base percentage cash back?

The base is 1.5% on everything. There are special categories that give more (like drug stores give 3%).

This sign-on bonus isn't particularly nice. It's requires so much spending to get so little. You're better off with the regular bonus of $500 spending for $200 back as Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

This card is great if you have a Sapphire Reserve/Preferred that you can just transfer the points to. The 1.5% turns into 2.25% with a Sapphire Reserve or 1.875% with the Preferred. It also pairs well with the Freedom Flex, which gets 5% back on rotating categories. Just use this card to shop at places that don't get you extra on the Sapphire card or the Flex 5% category (7.5% if you transfer to Sapphire Reserved and spend the points on travel). It does require some memorization of what places give you how much back on each card, but if you aren't a churner then these 3 cards provide the best points system you can use to make the money you are already planning to spend work for you.

This is "cash back" but it is given as Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

If I downgrade your chase Sapphire reserve to this, would you qualify for this?
You could downgrade your Chase Sapphire Reserve to the Chase Freedom Unlimited and then re-apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve to get their current bonus which is currently 60,000 points.

Chase is also trying to have a high ESG score. Watch where you spend your money!
