I'm pretty sure that device can be swapped once activated and the plan itself costs around $40 on sale. I have similar set up for my kid as emergency while he's in school. Doesn't spoil them with unlimited data and not fancy enough to play games or show off so he can stay focused on learning lol.
I am always new to HSN!
I activated the Samsung A11 yesterday as a new Tracfone account. Upon activation they sent the following text, which states 60 days:
Hi there, a quick update from Tracfone.
We have an updated unlocking policy. You can check it here http://tf-w.co/NZyp2bR

I understand the SIM card coming with this phone in the package has 1-year of service with 1500 text/voice/data. I also bought another better Tracfone.I have a few questions:
  1. Can I use the SIM from this phone to activate a better Tracfone? If so, can I unlock the better phone after 1 year of service?
  2. If I use SIM card from this phone to activate another phone, can I still use this phone with another SIM card of Tracfone?
  3. Basically, does the SIM card from this phone has to be activated with this phone?
  4. Is there any expiration time for the SIM card with 1-year service? Can I activate this SIM card, say 1 year later?
This locked phone will work with any other tracphone/total wireless sims).

Also the sim will work with any other unlocked/tw/tf phones as well.

For the 1 year later usage, i have no idea. You can chat with tf service. They are pretty good (faster to reach out than main carriers support)

Note that, Tracfone policy for unlock is 1 year service with them. (total wireless is 60 days but expensive plans).

But the tracfone sim is good for kids/light usage with their referrals reward program after account signup.
Not true, please don't post misinformation.
Verizon bought Tracfone companies 11/23/21 and changed unlock policy for phones activated AFTER that date. Search Tracfone Unlock Policy online & read it, things are different now, it's not the old Tracfone.

No, I chatted with both tracfone and total wireless a week ago to request for an unlock (samsung a01). Both reps confirmed that TF requires 12 months of service for free unlock and TW needs 60 days on Verizon (after nov 21 or 1 year for prior activations).

Again, misinformation. Sim & plan are linked to each phone and sim needs to be activated in the phone it comes with. If you try to use the sim in another phone it will work until Verizon notifies you to move it back to original phone - and they can take away the plan if you don't. Not worth it, do it the legal way by registering the IMEI correctly and not move the sims around. Can cause all kinds of issues if phone isn't registered right.

Certain upper level phones have dual SIM [androidauthority.com] More convenient than dealing with two phones but also more expensive
And doesn't solve the problem of dropping a phone over a cliff or losing it. Plus I use Tracfone prepaid phones because I can get the minutes I need really cheap on deals like this.

But might be something that works for some people.

Read the NEW policy. TF reps have no clue what's going on yet & are giving out incorrect information (they've always done that, they're very poorly trained).
Wait till after 1/23 when we've actually reached the 60 days and people start trying to unlock their phones.

Phones are supposed to be unlockable at that time if they were activated after 11/23 (for both TF and TW).

If a TF Verizon device is activated after 11/23/21 it is 60 day unlock. If you heard different the CSR was wrong or misunderstood your question.

I said based on my experience with tracfone. I used the tf sim on a samsung note10+ without any issues and also used another tf sim (my kid's) on the A01 without any issues.

Again like I keep saying that was before Verizon bought Tracfone company, things have changed & they are verifying if IMEI matches sim number. They have been requesting sims be put back in original phone - up to you if you can afford to be without service because phone isn't registered correctly. Several users on another forum have been notified so I wouldn't take the chance.

Don't bother till after 1/24. Until then you'll likely get several different answers from support just like everyone else is. There are still way too many questions about how the new policy will be applied & there will be numerous posts on the latest TF/TW threads.

Actually mine (new iphone 12 Mini) wasn't activated till 11/30, so I've got another 2 weeks. Others will be posting before that.
