Was at my local Home Depot today and saw this Honda lawnmower on clearance. Decided to post it here because I almost never see Honda lawnmowers on sale or clearance. Regular price is $700 and it was in clearance for $524. They had a few here at home depot largo, FL.

I tried a Honda with the plastic deck. Hated it.
Curious as to why. I've been really happy with the composite deck. I'm assuming it's plastic or fiberglass. I like them because they don't rust.

Honda mowers have crap tires. Have had to replace mine every year. Apparently they use some type of synthetic material instead of rubber.
I agree with you on the tires. As much as I love our honda mower which is the same as this one except for having a steel deck, the tread on the tires wear out super fast especially the rear tires. I wish there were some heavy duty tires with rubber tread available to buy instead of their cheap plastic tires and that would actually last a lot longer.

HRR216VYA since 2011 to 2012 and no tire issues, wonder why. By honestly, if it wasn't the design problem that made mulching feature useless on the HRR216s made back then, I wouldn't switch to this and most other Honda mowers because of lack of Roto-stop; just loves the feature.

Do you have a pic of the price? So they can price match?
I included the picture of the clearance price. Look at the second picture.

You're pushing the limits of low maintenance never changing the oil in 21 years. The Honda engines might be overkill for a home user, but they will generally have fewer problems and are made to last longer than the Briggs engines.
Oh. No doubt. But I was just disproving your point. B&S engines aren't all that bad as you were making it out to be.

I can't go back to a push mower, my time is worth the extra money. I enjoy taking care of my yard but I like to get it all done in one morning.

I bought a Troy-Built from HD 6 years ago, about $1000 with military discount. I'm done mowing in less than 10 minutes and I'm not wiped out so I can do the edging and shape the shrubs...all told it takes 30 minutes. Push mowing alone takes 45 minutes and in the FL heat I'm done for the day and have to do the rest the next day.

Wow that's nice that they called OPs store and matched. Is that common practice? I've never tried. But around here it's like pulling teeth to get them to honor their own online price
Funny thing is they didn't even call. Which I couldn't believe. But I am local to OP's store so I'm sure that helped. Worst case it was a 15 min drive additional drive to that store but I'm glad I didn't have to.

Last Honda mower I had I bought reconditioned about 15 years years ago and really didn't do any maintenence. I'm sold on the engines. It started to get hard to pull backwards the last year and then stopped starting, but I got a good run out of it.

This sale was super timely as I really needed something asap

To say that B&S engines are just as reliable as Honda is a joke. There is a reason that professionals almost exclusively use Honda engines. It is because B&S has been putting out crap that doesn't hold up for decades. They may be fine for occasional use, but a Honda will run for years with minimal maintenance and no down time. I've been using Honda engines in my business for over 40 years and I am still amazed at how reliable they are. Maybe you are right that there is some brand loyalty involved, but it was earned, and B&S engines were tried and failed.
Compare the actual MTBFs sometime. You might be surprised.

Highly recommended. I have a Honda that's slightly less feature rich than this one and it's been bulletproof for the past 8 years. Still starts in the first pull, every time.
My neighbor has one he bought from a Honda dealer. He had owned it 7 years when I took pity on the poor mower and did its first oil change and blade sharpening. It runs great despite being treated terribly.

I get you. Like this is a good price for a lawnmower in 2022? Original Price is $700. I better be able to ride it if I'm paying more than a hundred.....
That used to be my logic on dates before I got married.

I just moved into a house with a small front and back lawn. Do I need something like this or is there something you can recommend?
