I used to ONLY fill up at Shell, but they are one of the highest priced here in CA, and have been for the duration on the pandemic, so I ditched them. This is basically a gallon of fuel for free, but for what you're paying there you may as well go somewhere else and save even more.
FYI The T-Mobile Tuesdays Shell deal got WAY worse this year. It used to be 10¢ off, plus the normal silver or gold discounts of 3¢ or 5¢, and I believe good all week, or at least until Sunday night, then they cut it to had to be used by Friday night...
2022 Tuesdays: You get free Gold Status for three months, so 5¢ off, and then an additional 5¢ off, that MUST be used, on Tuesday.
A friend gave me one of their free Tmo lines so I could have Tmo and Verizon, so I used to use this promo once in awhile vs going to Costco, as it would sometimes make it the same price, however, now it doesn't make much sense as Shell is the highest priced fuel here.
This is still a good deal, but not amazing if you already have a CC that gives 4% back for gas, granted, if you purchased this gift card with a 2% cash back gift card, you'd still be somewhere between 7-8% off. I might grab a couple for trips in the future when I won't be able to pass a Costco.
Can this be used at the pump? If so, does it automatically prepay the balance on the card? Like if you have $10 left, will it stop at $10 or do you have to go inside and specify that amount.
Yes, I use it at the pump.
Just insert when it asks for payment and it will then tell you to remove the card.
You'll only be able to fill up, up to the amount remaining on the card.
You'll see the pump slow down a bit once the funds get low on the card you used, probably around $1 left.
One good part about using the gc is that I get the cash price if your shell station has a higher rate for cc.
Even 10% off with this deal wouldn't match Chevron prices.
For example, there's Chevron premium near me at $4.55/gallon and Shell is just one block away at $5.15/gallon. (And, there's unbranded at $4.45/gallon across the street from Chevron).
We will be getting a Costco gas station in the spring, and so waiting to see how that affects the six gas stations nearby.
shell for premium gas is not a good deal even if you apply these cards comparing to costco gas
but for regular gas these cards worth comparing to costco or any other,i have honda civic which regular gas is fine
and on top of these you can get 5cents discount if you register for shell fuel rewards

When you use these at the pump, it will automatically stop when it hits the limit. No need to go inside and tell them the amount.
Shell is expensive everywhere and there's a reason why. Quality! I ditched Costco a long back due the same reason! If you have your own car go for Shell, if you have a leased car go for Costco..
I used to think that too, as every place I lived that was the case.
But in NW FL, Shell is just average in pricing most places, some stations are good, and a couple in our area are consistently near the best prices, especially once the Rewards discount is added in.
I have the same Bank of America 3% category on my BankAmericard Visa. Watch those fools, they often don't 'recognize' an online purchase and don't give the full 3% I have seen this countless times.
I've sent them a spreadsheet of their misses and they take about a month then mail you a letter back blaming the merchant for not classifying it as online, even when the merchant name is clearly a website.
With credit card skimmers at many gas stations, using a gift card (or an app) is a better way to protect yourself comparing to using a credit card.
Highly recommend to sign up for Shell Fuel Rewards. Your minimum saving is 3 cents/gallon and you can see the price drop at the pump. In the last 3 months, I was given 13 cents/gallon saving once a month as a holiday promotion.
As for the gas price, it is highly location dependent. In my neighborhood at Central Texas, Shell gas price is less expensive than Exxon and Chevron gas stations in the same block.

My experience has been cash prices with gift cards in NY.
Depends on the station.
I think it used to be cash prices across all of them. Last week I went to one that recently upgraded their pump computer, it has bright LED lights for the gas price. It charged me credit card price.
My only concern is... How can I be sure they are shipping the actually activated gift card to you, and the picker/employee wouldn't swap it with a blank card.

Hopefully, Shell improved their gift card security.
About 5 years ago within a span of a few months, I was given 3 Shell gift cards as gifts from different people. 2 of those gift cards numbers were stolen and used. Shell did replace the 2 gift cards but that was a big pain.

A: AnswerIt would be cash price at Shell stations because there is no cost for Shell to process a Shell gift card or credit card.

It's very frustrating.
