SB- I am so sorry about your purse! If you need anything let me know please!

I'm trying to wean my 17 mo old off the bottle, he went to bed without one last night. (he was probably just really tired) This morning he woke up and asked for one so I showed him the cabinet where they go and it was emptied of all the bottles and replaced with sippy cups. I told him we gave the bottles to a baby who needed them. So it's naptime and I put him down, and he is wailing BA-BA, BA-BA, BA-BA. Crying Its breaking my heart...I want to give him one, but know he should've been off the bottle a while ago. My other 2 kids were not a problem, at 13 mos or so I just took it away and they drank out of their cups. My friends say its okay if he still has one if it is only for bedtime. But I think he is old enough not to need it. Any ideas?? Thoughts?? Suggestions??
Thanks!!
Give him time, it has probably become like a security blanket for him to have it, so now that he does not have it he is upset, a comfort thing. I would not recommend giving him a sippy cup to go to bed with, as this (IMO) is one behaviour that you want to break completely. It won't take instant results, it will take some time, but both of you will be just fine hug best of luck to you!

Hi, I have a big favor to ask of you guys. The $1 bins had these really cool coca cola plates and little mini lunchbox tins. I didn't get them and now I regret it. They are out of it in my store and I really need them for a project. I need like 25 of each. If any of you still have it in your stores, can you purchase them for me in exchange for paypal funds/gc or whatever choice of $$ you want? I need 25 of the plates and 25 of the lunchboxes. Thanks. I can pm you my ebay ID so you can see my over 400positive feedback... I'm a cvs'er primarily - part time targetter.

if anyone can help me out, can you pm me?

I'm the opposite of most people in that I don't think it's a big deal if they get a bottle or two a day as they get older. The key is to make sure that you brush their teeth after ba-ba time before bed. I won't tell you how old my first was when we got rid of his last ba-ba, but he pretty much went from "Mr. I want my ba-ba" to not really caring about it. I can tell you that I still let my youngest have 2 ba-ba's a day, and he will be two in a few months. Hide He eats plenty of food and can drinks from a sippy at all other times during the day, but he just likes his ba-ba when he wakes up and as part of our night routine. We try going without it every couple months, and eventually he won't mind. But for now, he really still enjoys it so I let him have it. My take on it is that it's milk... as long as you're caring for their teeth, who cares how it gets into their bodies? Some women EBF, I EBottleFeed laugh out loud

Every kid is different. We do cold turkey for everything. Got him off bottle at 13 months, binky at 6 months, crib just last week. Cried for 2 days with each (except the crib) then it was done. Pretty much same with all transitions. The one where I caved is the one that took the longest to transition (whole milk to 1%). Never even let him have a sippy cup, went right to straw from bottle. I think those sippy things are difficult, maybe try a straw cup like the ones everyone was getting for cheap that I paid full price for?

Do what feels right for you and the kid but you also don't want to be the 5year old kid on the playground with a paci in his mouth. There has to be a letting go point but I agree with the other moms that there should be a substitute. When we took away binky, we gave pony. Took away crib, he got the bed and a new cool cars blanket. Potty training he gets lots of treats. The substitute takes their minds off the issue.

I think the bedtime warning was so that they don't fall asleep with bottle in their mouth, it's bad for teeth. If you just do it at bedtime, then brush, he should be fine.

Every kid is different but we did the bottles for quite some time here..But we never let them go to bed sucking a bottle...And then the kids and I decided we needed to give the bottles to other little babies and they would get new straw cups...They were reluctant for a day or 2 then forgot abt the bottles...I also found drinking from a straw cup was easier than a sippy cup...

Now for my question - When do kids start drinking from regular cups..We do water, sometimes juice in regular cups but I have never tried milk...

Off to take the kids for their 3 yr visit to the ped...

We started reg cups around 2 years old and he was pretty independent with it by 2.5. That said, I still give him a sippy or straw cup a lot because he has a tendency to knock cups over. (and mama cries over spilled milk laugh out loud)

I feel like I keep saying this, but man, you guys have big kids. I don't think my guy has broken 40 lbs or 40 inches and he's well over 3 years old.

purple takes the liquid refills. the swiffer stuff are very confusing!!!

I have newborn twins... they are still on the every 3 hour a bottle schedule. I can't wait till they go to sippy cups and feeding themselves. right now we feed them pumped milk but it takes an hour a feeding as they don't suck right bc they were preemies... its a full time job feeding my twinkies.

Can't say much for the bottle - mine almost never got one (I BF for the first year of both of my DS). I had my first DS drinking from a straw at 10 months and the second at 8 months after hearing horror stories about getting bottles and sippie cups away from little ones! I went with the straws since they are almost everywhere you go and made for easy trips to eating places and it was easy to keep some extras in my diaper bags just in case a cup got lost. Smilie

Mine (5 and 3.5) will still sometime drink out of the straw cups but usually they have regular cups, I would say my oldest started drinking milk and such out of a regular cup around 3 to 3.5.

I had my purse stolen tonight. They smashed my car window while I was in the gym.

You guys, all.. . . .my. . . . .target. . . . .gift. . . . .cards. . . . . were in there.

All of them.

Along with my ECBs and the WAG RRs I had just earned from a run on the way to the gym.

I feel like such a farking idiot right now.

Sadwalk
You are not an idiot! Some people are just mean. I can relate to all those phone calls since someone took my wallet out of my purse at HEB (TX grocery store) about 2 years ago. I think I was probably picking out produce and right next to my cart but not looking at it. I lost gift cards, cash, had to change all our credit cards and automatic payments that charged to them and some of the only copies of wallet size pictures of my DS when he was little and cute instead of tall and stinky.

Now I feel like a little old lady when I see someone walk off from her cart with her purse in it. I usually wait just a second and then when they are back to their cart I tell them not a good idea. Yours is crappy because you also need a purse and a new window... mine because I did not even know it was gone until I lifted my purse out of the cart to pay and it did not weigh enough.

It sucked even worse when the next day I found out that they had only used my debit card once to buy $125 of something at a gas station a few miles down the loop. Had I known the day before, I bet I could have found my wallet and most of the rest of my stuff in the trash there. I really doubt they even used the gift cards.

I got a laugh. I called to cancel my library card and they said what if we just wait and see if they try to use it. They did not think my wallet was stolen to purloin a few books.

Right around that time, I saw on the news where there had been a lot of thefts like this and they finally got a woman on camera at one of the stores. There were car break-ins at gyms too because lots of people did not take their purses in. But I had a friend who ran in to pick up pictures and her Suburban was broken into in less than 5 minutes for her purse.

Anyway, words to the wise. Don't leave anything visible in your car someone else might covet. Don't leave your purse in your cart. Make a copy of the front and back of everything in your wallet at least once a year because it is hard to even remember what you were carrying if you have cards you don't use often. My DH would say those cards should not be in my wallet, but then I don't have them when I need them. I did take all my gift cards and put them in a pencil pouch that fits down between the seat and console and that way they are in the car with me but not in my purse. Wish I had more wisdom but that is it.

I am going to Walgreens to see if I can buy cheap Huggies wipes. I kind of read and thought don't need them, then remembered I now shop for an 80 yo so yep, need 'em. Life's a circle....
