https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony...Id=6453207 - $1299.99

Best buy dropped the price a hundred bucks to $1,299.99, I've been looking for an affordable 120Hz/VA panel 75" set for awhile and while there are a lot of options they all seem to have some sort of compromise or weakness at this time.

This Sony has decent enough brightness and color accuracy despite being an old fashioned direct lit set. Processing is top notch and I haven't noticed any software problems after a limited day of setup. Good compatibility for PS5 after being updated. If anything the contrast is the weak point compared to better sets, but to me it's just good enough to not be bothersome. While the native contrast of the panel itself is only ok... the processing quality pushes it up above other sets that have better panels (ideally) but worse processing.

Honestly I think the TCL R646 has the capability to have a better picture if you can get a good one, but dealing with the panel lottery and TBD software was too much hassle for me. Anything clearly better costs a few hundred more and that gets too close to oled pricing imho. Never ending room to argue but I think this is a decent choice for the price.

FYI Costco also dropped the 60Hz x81ch set to $949 if want something a little lower end.

Im holding out for a bit more of a discount on the x90j.
I have the 43" version of this, mainly because it's the only 43" 120Hz screen out there that I could find. I use it in my office for my Series S. It's a decent TV. I will caution that the Google TV built in is awful. Very slow and lots of picture quality issues with live streaming, especially sports. No hope for calibration to correct. However, I basically made the TV as dumb as possible and hooked up an Nvidia Shield, and I'm much happier. I don't know how I feel about the 75" at this price point, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the picture quality overall.

The standard price of the x90j is 1700. But you can get it less from greenish toe. I expect it to be discounted further soon at the major retailers, but when is anyone's guess.

Unless you mean would I buy a 2k tv. Yes I would if the deal was right and it was around this size. I don't see many options in between the sony x90J and x91 before jumping up to OLED which is still hard to get for less than 2700 without being refurbished.

What is your "BUY" point? $2k?
The 75" X90J hit $1599 on BF then again in late December.

I'm hoping it hits $1499 ahead of Super Bowl at Costco (fingers crossed). Was there last night and was happy to see that the store that happens to be in an area with 7.7% sales tax instead of 10.1% had re-stocked and had 8 of them on the floor.

So Costco carries the X90CJ (2021 model) that has the atsc 3.0 tuner for next gen tv but no X85 models? Looks like the X81CH they carry is a 2020 model that's basically the warehouse version of the X800H. A good price at $950 for the 75" but no atsc 3.0 tuner in that model. I believe it is an IPS model so it should have good viewing angles.

Sorry, I was thinking 85" version which has been $2000 for Veterans (no tax) or $2200 with 5 Years warranty from Costco. I don't think it's ever been any cheaper and $1600 (75) to $2000 (85), (if you are eligible for shopmyexchange) was no brainer if you had the budget and room, but I think 75" is still pretty good size.

Yah it's definitely as nice of an 85 inch tv as you can get for that price.

Ah that makes sense.

I received only minor resistance (beyond the obvious 'why do we need a bigger tv' question) on upgrading from my current 65" Samsung MU8000 to a 75". I much prefer the local dimming on the X90 over the X80/X85, and there has already been some eyebrow raising from a cost perspective. So I'm not pushing any harder for bigger via the 85" or higher end via X95 or OLED. I'm gonna take my win and be happy with it laugh out loud (also not eligible for veteran pricing)

I do love Sony TV quality, and this is a great deal.

But YIKES, Sony makes a thick TV. It's almost 3x as thick as Samsungs and LGs in the same price range.
That's probably because of better sound quality as well. Sony TV you don't need a Sound bar whereas for Samsung sound bar is a must

He didn't get the 75" X90J for $1200 new on Amazon. The 65" absolutely.

From the Keepa graph -

Wednesday, Jan 18, 2022 at 18:44 to Jan 20, 2022 at 3:08am it was the lowest price at $1379.99.

CCC can confirm as well.

Big jump in quality for the 90 series unfortunately. This is a decent price though. Though I wouldn't touch it personally
85 to 90 in this series adds a bit of peak brightness for HDR (+), non-flicker free backlighting (-), and local dimming (should be ++).

Normally the local dimming would be enough to justify the price jump but in this case it isn't very good local dimming. It doesn't help usable contrast much, if at all, and adds blooming artifacts which are very annoying to some. Everyone is hung up on the 90 because local dimming should be big deal, when it is implemented well. In this case it doesn't seem to be.

Also I've learned in the past couple days my set doesn't like band steering setups, had to go in and make uniquely named 2.4 and 5ghz networks. Seems this is a common wifi software problem with Sony, took about 30 seconds to find a bunch of posts about it.

I use xfinity so I'm guessing this could be an issue for a lot of folks.
