About this Game:
  • Join Link in his emotional quest to save Zelda, a childhood friend who must confront her destiny. Their special bond at the heart of the story is the world's best hope for defeating the encroaching darkness—and its power that will echo through the ages. Embark on a destiny-defining quest to overcome ancient trials and forge the powerful Master Sword. The many residents of the floating island and Link's home, Skyloft, have colorful personalities that shine as you help them with their troubles. Make sure to stop by Beedle's shop, but keep an eye on the troublemaking Groose.
  • Descend from the sky to the dangerous world below in this high-flying quest. Your adventure will lead you through perilous dungeons packed with puzzles. Each item you receive will open up even more adventure—uncover a hidden area with the flying Beetle or find a clever way to hinder enemies with a whip. Whether you are scouring for secrets, getting in some sword practice, or upgrading equipment, forge your own path in the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD game.
  • Gently swing your sword and angle your slashes to break through opponents' defenses using intuitive motion controls*. Link's in-game movements will correspond to the angle of each strike you make with the Joy-Con controller, creating immersive swordplay that relies on strategy and accuracy. Figuring out how, when, and where to strike adds a puzzle-like twist to swordplay. On the go? Soar and slash using button-only controls. You can also use button controls on a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

Objectively the worst Zelda. The game was made by 3 separate teams (one in house, one from another major triple a, one indie style team), each focusing on 1/3 of the game and spliced together to make the least cohesive game of the series. It's extremely buggy and repetitive with horrible controls. It also has the least entertaining world map making exploring a choir.

I'd highly recommend to skip this one, or at least don't expect a lot compared to any other Zelda game. I'd even prefer Zelda 2 over this.
I have to respectfully disagree. Big fan of its original release and think this port made it even better. They cleaned up a bunch and sure map exploration may be repetitive with the flying, but this surely isn't the worst zelda. Plus, the story may hold an importance to BOTW2. This is the very beginning of the zelda lineage
I have tried to play this games several times on the switch. Couldnt get past the controls each time. Controls are so counterintuitive and I have tried motion control and refular.

This is coming from someone who has beaten EVery console zelda, and about half the portable/game boy zeldas.

Many can get over the controls but I jusr couldnt do it.

I love zelda games, but this one I struggled to enjoy. Just couldn't get used to the controls. Just wonky and not intuitive.

I will have to agree with you and I played this on the Wii when it came out. It's my least favorite console Zelda game but I don't think it's an unplayable game. I also don't think botw was all that good but pretty much the opposite reasons of this game. This game at least had classic Zelda dungeons and bosses. The world is nice but it seems like they really put low effort into it after seeing it the first time. Controls wise I don't think I struggled that much and I played the Wii version unless I was fighting ghirham cause you actually have to slash in the proper direction which was a bit finiky. I definitely wont be buying this until it's under $30. I think if they did something similar to what they did for the Mario 3d games, that would've been a lot better experience for these new Zelda fans

It's to each their own, I mean do you really think if the game was as bad as he says it would have gotten an HD remake for the switch? I feel like Zelda games are all subjective. I'm a huge fan of the top down view ones since I grew up playing them on the gameboy, but BoTw so far has been one of my favorites, hard really to top botw they really went all out
Nintendo could release ZELDA 2 for $60 and it would still sell....

Nintendo fans don't really have high standards right now

Lol You think Nintendo fans are bad, look at the downvotes from the Zelda fans on anyone saying they actually enjoyed this game, you're not allowed to like it because some rando says it was bad.

Just my two cents: I bought this game at release on Wii and never got into it. Got the Switch version and had a blast playing through it. I honestly had zero issue with the controls. It's not for everyone and it's likely not to be most people's favorite Zelda game, but there's fun to be had with it.

Edit: To be fair, I did use the Pro Controller rather than motion.

best zelda ever in terms of actual gameplay, bosses and dungeons. The only downside is it's not open world.

Suckas paying $41 for a 10 year old port 🤣

But doesn't that speak to the quality (whether perceived or actual) and nostalgia of many Nintendo titles? The fact that Nintendo can command such a relatively high price for a game that is now several years old (albeit enhanced for and ported to the current console) shows the value these games hold for consumers. And this is coming from someone who has enjoyed Nintendo, PlayStation, and PC games most of his life, so I am not loyal to any single platform. Just my opinion.

Thank you for this. The story seems interesting, but the numerous complaints in online reviews regarding the motion controls had dissuaded me from trying it (I never played the original on the Wii). Knowing now that the motion controls can be avoided by using the Pro Controller has caused me to reconsider.

I concur. Skyward Sword has one of the most epic Zelda plots.

Although some people had unfavorable opinions towards motion control implementation in a mainline Zelda title, I truly believe the game has one of the best utilization of it in a single-player Adventure game. Also, the gameplay will unlikely be replicated in the series in the near future - making this title only more unique.

For anyone worried about the controls: check your local library. My library system has had Switch games for years, and you can borrow them for free for two weeks! You might have to wait for a while, but it's better than paying for a game you end up disliking. I sampled this before buying, and jumped as soon as it was on sale
