Keep in mind that even though third party sellers on Amazon and eBay may sell them for a similar or lower price, warranty is only valid if sold by an authorized reseller.

If you read the fine print about buying through your utility company you agree that they can control your thermostat during peak demand times. Not everyone is comfortable with that.

Some thermostat can be disconnected. For example I disconnected my Ecobee after stupidly connecting it first. It did not come pre-configured to c9nnect though. To my knowledge, the Nest one can also be disconnected ( not the Nest Lite)
