Exact opposite for me.
You can buy a Roku or Fire stick for super cheap. You talk like using the TVs platform is mandatory or something. Purchasing a TV based off its operating system is probably the dumbest thing you could prioritize.
I dare you to throw away everything you own that's Made in China, in fact I'll double dare you LMAO

I don't know about the technical details, but I can tell you that I've had several budget TVs of various brands with built in Roku and all work perfectly with no lag. Only bought one Android TV and it will be the last one. I constantly have to tinker with it, optimize, clear apps, and there's still hopeless lag and frequent crashes.

Basing your opinion on an entire operating system from experience with one set seems a little silly, especially if you're only buying budget sets.

A budget set on either platform is going to provide a budget experience, but obviously the platform that does less will eek ahead.

If you want a more pure comparison, grab a Roku Ultra and a Chromecast with Google TV.

I'm a fan of Google hardware and have no doubt that the new Chromecast is great. All of my Roku TVs were the cheapest ones I could find, and my point is that the "budget experience" with Roku is perfectly satisfactory. Not so with built-in Android TV.

Roku OS is quick and snappy. Chromcast no.

Lol, spot on. I'd like to see some of these "experts" blind test on different models. Most think they can tell the difference but really just love one brand or another. Like politics, probably handed down from their parents who knew very little to begin with.
Not sure how much TCL loyalty has been handed down for generations.

But it is Best Buy!!! Hands down the worst retailer to deal with defects or returns. Fifteen day return, some have restocking vs Amazon return policy. Buy from Amazon.
Not if you live in HI. Amazon does not ship any TV over 50 inches to HI any more.Mad

Expensive TVs dont last any longer than cheap ones. I've had Hisense and Changhong TVs for 5+ years.

I wasn't referring to brands. Just price. Most companies make cheap sets and higher quality ones for a reason.

Except Android TV is slow and clunky. You'll have to deal with some of that even if you're using the roku stick.

You don't, plug in a firestick and it has its own interface, just like if you plugged in an Xbox or Playstation. My tv auto opens my firestick once I turn it on I never have to deal with the default operating system.

You're welcome to buy something that you don't want and then buy more stuff to make it acceptable. I will choose to buy things that make me happy out of the box.

This tv is great. Just got the 2021 from Best Buy. Not sure why it's getting hate. The google OS seems really snappy and solid even though I just bought it for the panel. Thanks again op.

There should be a separate thread for the Best Buy one

Ok, keep searching for another 75+ inch budget TV that checks all of your boxes because you can't spend $30 on a firestick. Good luck 🤞😃

Got this on BF 2020 at BB for $500. Just fine for the price and size.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...droid-2020

HDR is very washed out but pretty OK for gaming as far as speed (much better than my 2012 Visio it replaced). Blacks are really really bad - gray zones all over the place but 1080p upscaling is quite good.

Top row of pixels already messed up if I use 10-bit color on Xbox.

The Android TV fan boys went hard in this thread. Seriously, I love android on my phone and would never consider using iOS. But Android TVs are so underpowered they don't function. They lag and force close apps due to lack of ram. The whole tv needs to be hard-rebooted every day just to function. Seriously, Android TV sucks. And it's not the OS's fault. It's the TV manufacture's fault trying to save a buck.
