I have this TV from the last deal at this price. It's a great tv with 1 exception. It's not very bright. I tried it in our living room which is a little bright during the daytime. The only place to set up the TV was across the room from some windows. That condition made for a terrible experience for daytime TV watching. Unless we used room darkening shades it just wasn't worth it to have OLED. Night time it was great. So we relocated the TV to the basement and it awesome down there. With the lights on it's an average TV in the basement. With the lights off it's amazing. I love everything about this TV except for the brightness.

Seems to me if you do a lot of daytime TV watching OLED might not be worth the extra $$. However, night time movies are awesome.

No signs of burn in whatsoever.
No hdmi 2.1, pass!
This is a 2020 model. So it's basically 2 years old now. Not bad. I rather have the LG CX if you're talking about older model and those you can also find for $1500 new. My Costco had the display model LG 65C1 for $1300.

well, I was kind of waiting for this but this is the first time I've read about the (lack of) brightness issues.

We just moved and put our 2-3 year old Sony 75" 950f over the fireplace in the main room and I think its a little too big. Not to mention we need a real wide viewing angle.

We are ok with the brightness of the LED TV. You think we'd be ok with this in its place?
No, don't do it. Excessive heat will decrease the expected life expectancy of an OLED. If you can, mount the TV on a different wall.

Thanks, understood, but we are in FL and don't expect we'll ever use the fireplace. I think we used the one in our old house 2-3 times in the 15 years we were there.

Unfortunately, the room is really thin and there's just not a good place to get seating to place the TV anywhere else. This is not my first choice and am planning a 120" theater for serious watching in another room

Good call. Yeah, I can definitely see that getting in the way. I don't know what type of mount you have, but it might be a good idea to look into a mantle mount. It'll bring the TV down closer to eye level.

With the lack of HDMI 2.1, what features would you lose on a PS5/Xbox (whatever they are called now)?

OLEDs def are not as bright as LEDs. My C9 is not so great during the day with the sun on the wall, but it's amazing at night. In all fairness, I am not sure many TVs are great with sun coming in almost directly.

I have the prior model from 2019. It's still a monster and everyone always is wowed by picture quality. Don't even think about it. Great price for an amazing tv.

Use will be exclusively for sports/movies.

As long as you can control the ambient light you're gold.

For what it's worth, I just discovered a handful of dead pixels in my E8 after about 4 years of ownership (7,500 hours). I wouldn't hesitate to buy another OLED but I would probably spring for the 4 year warranty. Food for thought.

Just word of advice for those who might not know. If you plan to use your display w/o an AVR (so TV speakers or soundbar), and have any media content w/ DTS audio, then steer clear of current LG's (I say this as an owner of other LG OLEDs).

Sony's use the same panels as comparable LGs (bought from LG), just w/ different processing (Sony's arguably better). I've been waiting for this deal to come back around since November. If your primary use case for this is TV/Movies, it's a killer deal.

HDMI 2.1 would be nice - but is only really useful atm if you're doing high end gaming. Otherwise it's highly unlikely you'll ever miss the 2.1 feature considering how long it will be before broadcasts are 4k@120hz...

AFAIK, it does 4k@60hzHDR on both XBOX & PS5. So only 120hz is lost. Not sure if this one has VRR (I think not), but LG's do. If gaming is the primary usecase, an LG would probably be better tbh.

Same issue with brightness on an LG C1 in a semi-bright room. Had to increase the brightness on the tv, which alters the picture too much. Will probably return mine.

The brightness issue seems to bother some while others don't have a problem with it. I have no brightness issue but they do look their best in the dark, then again don't they all. If you don't put it in a sun room to watch daytime TV you should be fine. LEDs are brighter than OLEDs, if you like a bright picture you might want to stick to LED. Go to two or three stores and compare both technologies to get an idea.

I personally would not mount any TV above a fireplace. The extra heat only helps to add to the deterioration of the TV's electronics and shorten its life span.

My Xfinity doesn't even have many UHD channels. They tested TNF on foxsports one time, but it was flickering. So it's not there yet for cable.

For now, my PS5 is occupying it which works out.
