I have this TV from the last deal at this price. It's a great tv with 1 exception. It's not very bright. I tried it in our living room which is a little bright during the daytime. The only place to set up the TV was across the room from some windows. That condition made for a terrible experience for daytime TV watching. Unless we used room darkening shades it just wasn't worth it to have OLED. Night time it was great. So we relocated the TV to the basement and it awesome down there. With the lights on it's an average TV in the basement. With the lights off it's amazing. I love everything about this TV except for the brightness.

Seems to me if you do a lot of daytime TV watching OLED might not be worth the extra $$. However, night time movies are awesome.

No signs of burn in whatsoever.

This is a 2020 model. So it's basically 2 years old now. Not bad. I rather have the LG CX if you're talking about older model and those you can also find for $1500 new. My Costco had the display model LG 65C1 for $1300.

I bought this and posted the deal once previously before the holidays. I plan on taking some of the money saved to use in the Future for a ATSC 3.0 tuner. That was the only feature I found lacking for my preferences (Not a gamer). I also had issues with Apple TV 4K ( early generation). It had raised black levels with dolby vision and and flickering with SDR. It could mainly be seen on dark scenes but it was persistent and annoying. I thought it could be the tv but realized it wasn't happening with the built in apps and the Roku 4k+ Stick that I recently picked up to get Dolby Vision and Atmos. The built in smart apps don't offer Dolby Vision or Atmos. Unless, I'm doing something wrong ? I also found the picture quality to be much improved using a external streaming device. If you have a newest Apple TV 4K this could be fixed per AVS Forum ? But I would still check it if you pick up the A8H.

I know this TV is also originally released May 2020 but the Label on mine says Made in Mexico Nov, 2021 followed by the tvs serial number. Still not quite sure what's on going there, but It's nice to know it could have been manufactured recently instead of sitting in a box somewhere for almost two years ?

Also, If you have a lot of time theres a 400+ owners thread at:

Damn, on the fence with this deal or wait for Super Bowl sale on the newer A80J. Non-gamer here. Anyone know what the lowest the A80J has ever gone?
if you dont mind refurbished then check out secondipity, they have alot of sony TVs on there, all are refurbs, but can get a warranty for 2 or 3 years on most of them.

This will sound like a knock on the A80J, but to my surprise, it's not significantly better than the C7, which I think speaks more to the limitations of OLED tech in general. But I can definitely tell it gets brighter than the C7 even though the rtings test measures say otherwise. I think I got lucky and ended up with the evo panel on my 65" A80J.

Edit: I think the brightness I'm noticing may also be due to the increase in size since I'm comparing my 55" C7 to now a 65" A80J from the same viewing distance. Plus, playing video games at 4k/120hz (only have one so far on my ps5) is a whole new experience for me.
My C7 is so bright I have to turn it down. More than enough for me. The 950H I have is brighter than the sun, it hurts my eyes when the brightness is any higher than 20 (out of I think 50). Honesty, brightness is soooo overrated. Deep blacks are so much more important and have SIGNIFICANTLY larger impact on overall PQ. .

isn't Sony using LG panels anyway??
They are. But Sony has the best processing chip. LG is still really good, but Sony is the best.

A80j refurbished at secondipity is $1840 currently. If I didn't just take delivery of 85" x900h last week ($1040) I would have been mighty tempted. Is A80j bright enough for full sun room (ambient, not direct on tv)

The TV supports eARC and Dynamic HDR by enabling Enchanched in the TV HDMI settings. If you're not gaming then you don't need HDMI 2.1. Eventually HDMI 2.1 will be the standard, but most newer TVs only have two HDMI 2.1 inputs.
Can you list the menu steps to make that change - - I don't see an option for HDMI settings within the "Settings|Display & Sound||Picture" menu

One thing in favor of the Sony is the Android OS. Would rather have that than Web OS.

i dont think most people actually use their fireplaces, ive lived in my house for 7 years and never used mine. my parents never use theirs, none of my friends use their fireplaces lol
I don't understand why you, your parents and all your friends paid $1500 to $4000 more (it's in the price of the home when sold) for fireplaces you NEVER use. You could have bought an OLED with that wasted money and space LOL. Even if I didn't use the fireplace I wouldn't mount a TV above one, I don't enjoy looking up all the time to watch TV.

I had a sony I bought years ago NEW from bestbuy at least a year after its original release that had a serial number sticker with a recent date taped over an old serial number sticker. I don't know if sony takes them from other regions or what but they seem to do weird things when they sell models late after release at a big discount.

I agree. My 950G was so bright at first, that I got uncomfortable watching TV during the night, esp with HDR/Dolby Vision content when it switched from a dark scene to a bright scene. But i've since added a bias light, which helped out big time. So, if you don't have one, I highly highly recommend it.

I even got one for my A80J too, so I recommend that for everyone here planning to buy this A8H model. Bias light works wonders for watching content at night, even for OLED.

No problem. It should be settings - channel and inputs - external inputs - HDMI signal format - then change your HDMI settings for each port. I left eARC on Standard because the audio would drop in and out at random times while using the HBO Max internal app, and audio was being sent to my receiver. Let me know if that works for you.

The built-in apps support DV/HDR and atmos. Are you referring to any specific apps? Even my three year old Sony has built in apps that I watch DV/atrmos content on.

i didnt buy my house because of a fireplace, if i could have found one without a fireplace i would have bought it lol. I have never understood why you would use a fireplace other than looks, its not doing anything but heating a single room. So its not like it saves on heat since it has to run to keep the rest of the house warm.
