This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

Quote from Alucard400 :
I brought the whole box packaging, charger, docs, sim pin and the phone. The Best Buy cell phone employee told me he just needs the phone. He saw the iphone 11 brand new still with the protective screen laminate. He told me to do the honors and peel it off laugh out loud. Then he turned the phone on to check the IMEI. He asked for the phone number and I gave the T mobile account phone number but he was asking for the Best Buy customer phone number. He didn't ask for T mobile account number or Social security #. I didn't bring my mom with me (account holder). I purchased the phone for her, so account holder does not need to be there to pick up the phone.

The BB employee was going to open the phone box to put the sim card for me into the phone to make sure it works. I had commented that I was hoping to just do it myself at home, and another employee told him that it CAN be done by the customer at home. So the employee just printed some documents and had me sign for some stuff and I was on my way. I think, if you wanted to push it, tell them you want to activate the phone yourself at home and need to get going.
Tips for the first timers, keep your trade-in simple and ordinary to avoid questions and minimize time needed.

1) Trade-in a phone that looks used. Take your trade-in out of the box. Remove factory plastic wrap. Jingle it in your pockets to get some dirt and lint on it. Get some fingerprints and oil on it. You don't have to actually use or activate the phone, just make it look used. Trading in a perfect, spotless phone invites questions because it is out of the ordinary.
2) Trade-in the phone only. Remove the box, accessories, and case / screen protector. BB doesn't want them.
3) Factory reset the trade-in phone at home. Per the terms that you agreed to when you signed up for the trade-in, you must sign out of all your accounts (apple, google, etc.) and factory reset the phone. Do this at home to minimize the time at BB. Your trade-in should be at the "hello" screen when you hand it over to the BB agent.
4) Remove the sim card from the trade-in at home. You don't want to accidentally give away your sim card (some agents don't check). Also, you don't want to raise suspicion if the agent does check and finds a tracfone sim card on a "verizon" phone. Remove your sim card at home.
5) Charge your trade-in. Your trade-in just needs to be charged enough for the BB agent to get the necessary information off of it. Don't bring a dead phone and expect them to charge it.

Doing this keeps your trade-in time to under 5 mins at BB.

As coolchicagoguy said, it doesn't matter as long as the line remains active on your account, the existing bill credits for that line will continue regardless what phone you're using on that line. TMo will detect the phone and automatically update it on their end but has no impact to the bill credits.

I'm with you.. just trying to determine WHY the tforce rep I'm consulting with keeps insisting this promo will kill my current bill credits bc it is (according to them) considered a recurring device credit promo (and you can't have 2 promos on one line at a time) even after I sent them the terms from BB page and I keep telling them it's a trade in/ pay in full deal.. I even forced the issue to supervisor who agent says backed up their statement… most likely these particular agents really don't know bc it's a BB promo and they aren't sure what the real answer is…I'm just trying to pick it apart to see if this in any way is different then past similar promos to justify why they seem so positive it's a no go…

FYI if you want to ensure the BB reps don't try and set the phone up for you… go pick it up 5 mins before close…they want to go home… you are in a hurry…fastest phone trade in and purchase I've ever had.. maybe 5 mins….

My sons Xr has some dings on the body and paint chipping. Screen and Back are fine. Would that be eligible for the full trade value?

Yes there shouldn't be a problem
Two glasses front and back should be crack or chipping free
No spots or dead pixels on screen

Find someone in your life who IS on T-Mobile and pay them back. The heroically motivated went to COSTCO and opened a $20 talk and text line that they will later close - just to do this transaction.
Can you buy T mobile plan without a device at Costco? We're there any activation fees?

Thanks very good info. If we factory reset iphone to hello screen you can't check or get the imei. Is that nor gonna cause delay if they have to go thru the activation of the old trade in to get to about setting? Or they are not even noting down the imei of trade in??

Why would you debate a best buy promotion with t-mobile agent? Seems cruel and unnecessary since the t-mobile agent is right about EIP upgrades, when it happens through t-mobile.

They took three phones as one credit towards a new 13?
Someone already explained before I saw this and they were correct. I traded in two XR's for two $200 giftcards (before they dropped the price). I then traded in the third XR for the $390 credit when trading in for the iPhone 13. I then used both gift cards to cover the balance and taxes and a case.

iPhone IMEIs are on the hello screen. Agents know how to get it.
Android phones have to go through the setup process to get the IMEIs, but this is normal and expected by the agents.

Either case, sign out of all your accounts and factory reset your trade-in phone at home.

The Best Buy employee will note down the IMEI of the trade-in phone. From the main "Hello" screen - which you should see if the phone has been reset - there is an "I" icon that stands for Information on the bottom right. Clicking on the "I" icon will display the phone's information, including the IMEI.

I hope this helps,

So we can trade in phones that are on EIPs getting bill credits right? Trading in a S21 for a 13 Mini for $50, is a no brainer lol.

No - you just take it out of the packaging and make sure there is enough charge in the battery for Best Buy to power it up

Yes - they were selling the plans without phone purchase. Not sure if there were any activation fees - it was faster and cheaper than through TMo. I am reporting on the experiences of others - I had several paths to this upgrade without a separate $20 plan
