This is with bestbuy, so no bill credit involved, it's instant trade in value that deducts from the sale price, and tax is on the deducted selling price too. Don't mislead others.

ATT is $100 cheaper further. $500 for mini and $600 for regular. But trade in values are horrible.

T-Mo is still the best in value overall.

Tell them it's a gift. Or maybe just come 30'-45' before they close time
Or don't be such a puss thinking up dumb excuses and simply tell them not to install the sim or mess with the phone that you just paid for in full.

Do I need to hand over the old phone right away to the store? I asked this because I need to run an iTunes backup from old phone and restore it on the new phone, so I need to turn in the old phone later.

Same for me yesterday. I did check my orders on BB website and it says to enter the IMEI to activate the phone. Since I ordered the phone under my buddy's account i am just going to ignore it. I have a feeling if I do activate the phone, the line (his moms) will deactivate and the new sim will be required.

Do you actually think Best Buy is going to let people walk out with a new phone on the honor system?

This has been answered repeatedly, but again: Back up your phone first while at home. Use iCloud, laptop, thumb drive, old phone, whatever to store your backup. Then wipe your phone. Trade it for new phone. Bring new phone home and transfer backup during setup.

Ok thanks. I already backed up all my pics, so no concern there, but I got lots of MFA setup Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, SteamGuard, Battle.net, Okta verify, and many others that I want to make sure it will transition to the new phone, so I won't get locked out from my emails, paypal, teamviewer, etc.
I hope they will give me some time to login into the new phone while in the store, so I can have time to migrate my MFA over.

Pay the full price minus the XR trade in value and then use the ATT trick to unlock the 13 mini and then use on whichever carrier u want and then you can cancel this Tmobile plan anytime you want.

Ways to unlock iphone bought from this deal:
1. ATT sim card trick (unlocks instantly)
2. Tmobile unlock (request in twitter etc and get unlocked within 24-72hrs)
3. If you are currently using verizon then put the verizon sim directly and start using it.
At&t method no longer works. I used that method for all the iPhones I got last month. The most recent iPhone 13 I picked up last week got locked to at&t and no one could unlock it. I eventually escalated the issue and submitted all purchasing documentation and it took them a week to unlock the iPhone 13.

They will typically give you all the time you need in the store, but be aware, some of the more douchy stores will charge for in-store transfers while others don't care and allow it for free.

I did that with a previous deal, and applied twice for same number , and it went thru, problem was the pickup for the 2nd phone was in Wisconsin, and I live in Michigan. Don't ask me how that happened…
Anyway, I tried to move the pickup location, and it wasn't possible. So I went ahead and canceled it. Then the trouble started!
I've been charged every month for the phone I didn't purchased, and it took probably more than 15 calls to make it right, and I'm still waiting after 2 months!

What you kids should take from this?
If you are approved, and the order went thru, go ahead and pick up the order, because if you don't, you'll be charged anyway. Then you can do a return /refund and be done, but DON'T CANCEL THE ORDER!

Can someone who is very familiar and experienced with buying smartphones from Best Buy confirm the accuracy of the following statement and example?

Statement: iPhones purchased at Best Buy come unlocked, and is locked to the carrier of the first SIM card that is inserted into the phone.

Example: I trade in a phone to Best Buy. I get an iPhone 13 and the representative does not insert the T-Mobile SIM card that accompanies the phone. I insert an AT&T SIM card into the phone. At this point, the phone is then locked to AT&T, not T-Mobile.

Thank you,
Tofu Vic

Correct, but AT&T made some changes internally such that Flex policy phone can no longer be unlocked via the normal unlocking channels.
