Marriott status is not that valuable. My last stay as a Titanium, I had to fight to get a room with a nice view. Didn't even bother asking for a suite, even though the program states I should be eligible for one. Marriott has repeatedly stated they want to take care of hotels, not members.

I was the last one in my company to stick it out with Marriott, but everyone has switched to Hilton because their rewards program is much better.

Yes, it is a promotion for everyone through 5/4/22. The catch is, it doesn't apply to existing reservations - so you'd need to rebook (at today's rates) any existing reservation to benefit from this.

basically each paid stay gets 1000 extra points and 2 stay credits per night instead of one.

no bonus for any points/cash and points reservations.

I would do that but I have to use my company credit card. Mad
Do you have to? I gave up on using my company card years ago and used my own instead (to earn points/miles) and just expensed it instead.

The good news is, I'd imagine rates are down right now because of Omicron spike.
No, rates are about the same, if not higher, at least domestically (ie., non-tourist hotels). Service is definitely down, and amenities have disappeared. None of that savings is reflected in room rates though.

Marriott has gone to crap in the last few years, especially after the Starwood acquisition. I finally made lifetime Platinum, and I'll be focusing on Hilton going forward. Diamond with Hilton is superior to Platinum and Titanium with Marriott. Heck, Hilton Gold is roughly the same as Marriott Platinum, and I don't have to do anything for that status thanks to AMEX.

Do you need to cancel and rebook if you have an existing reservation to get the deal?
When I read the T&C it just says stays between the dates and so on.
It doesn't say that it's only for reservations made after the promotion started.

I've been titanium elite with Marriott for years but with their COVID protocol of a banana breakfast benefit I've just stopped using this chain.

"Stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott International, Marriott Executive Apartments, and Marriott Vacation Club owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for bonus Points or bonus Elite Night Credits for this promotion."

As a TItanium Elite Bonvoy and Presidential MVC member this kind of exclusion is complete horses!ht. I'm locked into my guaranteed Marriott $$ spend a full 14 months in advance of my vacation travels where I effectively promise to drop decent coin at their top tier properties... seems ridiculous that they don't offer a bonus to actual "owners."

Elite night aren't redeemed. They are simply used to determine what elite at status you reach in the program. Think of them as more like the segments airlines use to determine status levels. Points are used to book free stays.
Thanks so much - i completely misunderstood and got excited for not much reason!

Doesn't sound right. I am an Ambassador member and had no trouble registering within the app.

Is the elite night credit basically a free night you can use anytime? Anyone know how that works?

I typically read tripadvisor reviews before choosing my hotels. It seems like everytime I read Marriott hotel reviews, high elite members like yourself complain of this same thing. It use to not be that way, so this is very alarming to hear. Even late checkout is becoming harder and harder to get and certainly not for more than 1-2 hours extended max. Gold Elite use to get you lounge access, but they took that away.

The terms of this promo just show how terrible their program is. Why should it matter when you actually booked your hotel? It should only matter when you actually stay at the hotel. To make you cancel and rebook would be just silly.
Exactly, I booked sometime ago and the current rate is not good and I'm not going to cancel and rebook even though it's a 9 nights stay

As far as I can tell, it should stack withthis promotion [marriott.com] for an extra 2k points when you stay at a Courtyard. So if you have 1k or so base points, that'd be 4k points per night. Courtyards rarely (if ever) do free breakfast, but for that level of pointage I can cope.

It sounds like you have to enter code 53M when booking the room to get the 2k extra points, which may be a problem for those of us who have to have the company we work for make the reservation. Maybe it could be added later on the phone?

Marriott points are worth more to me than some of the other brands simply because with my 3 kids, we are a family of 5. Springhill Suites has all the rooms that can be done with points accommodating 5. IHG properties have often reserved us a room for 5 that only had 2 beds and no couch. Not a problem with Springhill. There also seem to be Springhill Suites in a lot of places for reasonable point values, and they aren't perennially full like the more extended stay types.

Is calling for a challenge still a thing? I'd really like to jump up to platinum for the free lounge access or free breakfast benefit you can sometimes get when the kids aren't along.
