Marriott status is not that valuable. My last stay as a Titanium, I had to fight to get a room with a nice view. Didn't even bother asking for a suite, even though the program states I should be eligible for one. Marriott has repeatedly stated they want to take care of hotels, not members.

I was the last one in my company to stick it out with Marriott, but everyone has switched to Hilton because their rewards program is much better.

Yes, it is a promotion for everyone through 5/4/22. The catch is, it doesn't apply to existing reservations - so you'd need to rebook (at today's rates) any existing reservation to benefit from this.

basically each paid stay gets 1000 extra points and 2 stay credits per night instead of one.

no bonus for any points/cash and points reservations.

Out of the major chains, Hyatt (globalist) status is by far the best out of the different hotel chains. IHG status is almost pointless.

Unfortunately Hyatt's hotel footprint is relatively small compared to Marriott, Hilton, and IHG.

Marriott used to be decent until they're bought by a foreign company a few years ago. Their point devaluation is pretty staggering since then. Boy, I do miss SPG.

Hyatt is my go to place (when using points). However, I'm not sure how long the good time will last as I can see that all companies are moving to devalue their points further and further eventually.

Not unless you are chasing Titanium/Ambassador status for 2022-23.

wow, that's for pointing out the need to re-register. I would have totally overlooked that. Very sneaky move on Marriott's part, it's like they don't want loyalty anymore. Totally unnecessary.

You don't need to "re-register" or rebook anything.

You just can't have stayed prior to registering; any stays (which is the act of actually staying at the hotel), even if during the promo period, but prior to registering, won't be bonused.

The system literally posts the bonuses, for at least domestic properties, about a day after checkout. You need to be registered by the time of that posting when the system checks which bonuses to apply to your stay.

ok thanks, I just read through most of this thread and it's more clear now. The act of staying has to happen after registering not the booking. Got it!

Ok before canceling and rebooking my trip I did yesterday I called the customer number and was told once you register the act of staying at the hotel has to happen after. Not the booking. So there was no need for me to cancel since I have my trip on April. So you just have to make sure you are registered. And it has a pending time before it is active on the account.

Yes, they apparently redid their program. I'm not one to read all the fine print but when I book, there's a place where you can request a room upgrade. However, you are only allowed up to 5 per year. It's a catch-22 to me. I finally got an upgrade as I was never able to do so before.
You're referring to Suite Night Rewards. These are not the same as comp upgrades. You're able to apply a Suite Night Reward to your reservation after booking and the property will typically upgrade you 5 days out from arrival. Comp upgrades are usually applied by a property 24 hours out, but are occasionally done upon check-in/arrival.

I hold Titanium status and can not recall the last time I was not upgraded automatically.

Your stay will qualify. A "stay" in Marriott terms is just that... it is the act of staying at their property. When you book your reservation is completely irrelevant for the terms of this bonus (and all Marriott bonuses).
I wouldn't be so sure. I recently lost out on points even though my stay during the qualifying time period. I reached out to customer service and this was their reply:
"Please note that you registered to the promotion on November 7. The reservation of your stay was made on August 28 which is outside the promo period and not eligible to earn the bonus points."
My stay dates were qualifying, but I would have had to cancel the reservation I made on Aug 28 and re-booked after registering for the promotion on Nov 7.

I had booked in Nov '21 and just completed a stay and got the bonus. I registered for the bonus three weeks ago before my stay and did not rebook. I typically don't look at the small print and take any bonuses as a bonus Smilie .. Life tends to be more positive when you look at this this way.

For those of you fighting for upgrades and such, the key thing to look out for is to stay at owned and operated hotels versus a franchise owned hotel. Marriott owned and operated hotels are typically a little nicer and are more generous with extras. On my stay the other week I asked for late checkout. They offered 6PM before they even checked my room or elite status.

I will state that the devaluation of points is a slightly hard swallow. It takes much more for a free night than it ever has.

BTW Lifetime Titanium here.

Perfect timing and thank you OP!

I'm headed to Puerto Vallarta next month and the Caribbean in April. So regardless of who I book with (Expedia, Kayak, cheaptickets, etc.) the points apply? So a 10 night stay earns me a total of 10,000 points? And how quickly can these points be redeemed for another room?

Completely wrong. Any non-qualifying rate (which includes every rate booked on every third party site you listed) will not qualify for status or elite nights, and also does not qualify for this promotion:

You need to book directly with Marriott, through FHR (if applicable), or submit a BRG claim through Marriott.
