(I'm assuming you mean 512GB cards) Scam: What they do is take a 8GB or so MicroSD card, rewrite the partition information to be 512GB. Windows/Mac will see it as 512GB (even though its only 8GB), but once you start trying to write more than the 8GB it starts to write over the data that's there because there's not enough space. So it corrupts anything you store on there past its actual storage limit. It's a common scam, that they're hoping you won't catch on to until its too late. Don't give them any money.

Ok this is timely. Question for the forum. There are 512mb cards for $12. With decent reviews too. I need one for a loaded RetroPie image (games). Will the cheap ones suffice? Or do I *need* this one at 3 times the price?

I don't care about longevity etc. Just to work.

Thank you

If you are ignoring longevity, then I would say any cheap card would do. But why would you ignore something like that when you put effort into making your retropi image?

SDXC came out 2009 and said "up to 2TB".... and I havevn't seen that yet.

In February 2019, Micron and SanDisk unveiled their microSDXC cards of 1 TB capacity

I wonder why the 2 TB hold up.

Or this new "SDUC" that suppose to be 2 TB+

Tbh, because I tend to brick them regardless. My Images are stored on my HD that I then load to a card for my projects. I typically abuse or lose those cards so if I can get 3 cheap ones, as long as they'll work for a while I'm good

Fair enough 👍 I've definitely had name brand cards brick and become useless plenty of times, so more power to you!
