Not a slickdeal but given that these are out of stock everywhere just an FYI that they are available at GameStop. Amazon is hit and miss as stock is coming and going out of stock.

https://www.gamestop.com/consoles...dition=New

For Amazon need to go to the link and the scroll down to where it says other sellers. Find the one that is sold and shipped by Amazon and add it to your cart.

It is coming and going out of stock. Took me like 5 attempts to place my order, in other words if you don't see it in stock give it a few minutes and refresh and try again. I was trying through the app but finally was able to complete the checkout on my PC using Chrome. Good luck

Saw one in Gamestop and it looked pretty, but is it really worth the upgrade? Many nintendo games don't even focus on graphics and our switch mainly sits docked anyway.

I agree that this is not for everyone. I think people buying it are either those that don't have a Switch (in this case I think it is well worth the extra $50), those that traded the old Switch at GameStop for $250 and upgraded to this, for those that mainly play on handheld mode, and maybe collectors.

Definitely not worth it for people that play 90% of the time on docked mode, not even for the ethernet port option as from reviews I saw online speeds might be worst than using wifi due to the USB data bus being shared for the ethernet and Video output.

I bought it because I play 90% of the time handheld mode. Plan to keep the original though as mine was one of the first batches that has the hardware exploit, if Nintendo doesn't enable local saves eventually (which I think they will never do) having that option available to backup saves come in handy.

I have an OG Switch that I may sell to get this.
Does Nintendo even allow you to transfer your data to a new device?

I would not upgrade if I were you unless having a hardwired ethernet port on your dock matters. I think that is the only advantage to docked only players. I play 99% undocked and the difference is night and day. Screen is a million times better, much bigger (in comparison) and is usable in full daylight. Speakers are also MUCH better too. Honestly the OLED console feels cheaper, more creaky, than the non-OLED's though.

The Nintendo in my world and every console I owned from them (except the 3DS) the saves and digital purchases where tied to the hardware.
Things may have changed which is why I am asking.

Purchases are tied to the account not the system. When I swapped my non-OLED to the OLED model I was surprised how effortless the transfer was. All games, saves, settings, log in's, etc moved from old Switch to the new one. Other than the Switch looking different physically it was like I was using my old system after the short process. Really painless.

Now in comparison I bought a used 2DS XL a while ago off eBay and after registering was amazed to find out that I (or more correctly, my 2DS) was the proud owner of a dozen plus games purchased by the prior owner. Seemed really silly those games followed the hardware and not the owner.

I recently upgraded from a 2017 switch to the OLED

It was 100% worth it for me but I play almost exclusively in handheld mode. The main reasons to buy this are the increased screen size, the higher quality screen, the improved speakers, and the improved kickstand.

None of those benefits apply when you're playing in docked mode.

What's the purpose of the storage cards I see going on sale then? Is it so that you don't have to redownload the games?

I have a gigabit fiber connection so... I should ignore?

Wish I waited a little longer to grab this one but the OG switch is still pretty awesome. Thank you either way, OP.

You'll still need to redownload the game if you upgrade your Switch but that happens automatically when you try to start it for the first time (assuming you have an internet connection). The SD cards are so you can hold more games at any given time.
