The conundrum is that much of the services are now asynchronous (runs in the background) and it takes 4GB just to keep Windows 11 running from startup.
The real question is whether a Windows laptop will operate well in 2-3 years on 8GB as more background services are coded into the OS.

If you're set on this device, I'd jump. Definitely a good price and doubt we'll see lower until Black Friday'ish. Aka long time.

What about waiting? Well.. for the past 5 years or so, waiting for the "next gen" was kind of a stupid game because the next model was only a refresh of the same processor and we had to wait at least 2 generations to see worthy improvements, 11th gen was a complete disaster on desktop computers.
But for 12th gen, this.. this is worth the wait, for the first time in 5 years, waiting is worth it...
Now you and I may get downvoted for souring the current deal, it's not available yet and we don't know the price bla bla bla, so I'd say I'm just addressing your question, nobody should take offense on facts, with the premise being that this right here is a good deal and if you need a Surface Pro right now, this right here is an excellent option.

But this is the base model (no i3 available) and if you want 16GB of RAM it is $$$$$.
So the real question is, what will you do with it?
Do you want to spend the $$$ to get something so slick?
I do love the idea of the surface tablets but I just find it to expensive to get what you want 16GB and 1TB.

There is also a Microsoft surface pen on sale for around 60 bucks. 40% off. It's not the latest gen but it works great.
Additionally, the SSD on this can be swapped out. It uses the M.2 2230 PCIe SSD. There are videos online that show you how to do so. I know I'm talking to the internet but I wouldn't consider this a technically challenging task and you could save a lot by upgrading disk space yourself. I'll give Microsoft credit for allowing users to do so. It's a shame what these companies are charging for disk space.
