What about waiting for this year's refresh? I heard the improvements for the 12th gen is pretty good so I'm wondering if I should wait instead?
While Samsung or TSMC starting 3nm by end of year, our beloved Intel 12th stuck in 10nm....year(sssss) behind...

I've been on the fence to get one but everyone I know that has one loves it. I think I'm going to take the plunge and get it!
Do it. I have a SP7 and love it. Either this or a thinkpad yoga.

Regarding RAM, I have been using a SP6 for over 2 years now. i5 w/ 8GB. I always have at least 2 Excel workbooks, Chrome with 10+ tabs open, Google Calendar, Outlook Mail, MS Edge with 3-5 tabs open, and a web based client management system all open and using bouncing back and forth using 2 external monitors along with the Surface monitor. I have ZERO issues with lagging or slowness.

Take it for what it's worth, but that's my real world experience. I'm sure if you are using your computer for heavy graphics and video you may have a much worse experience. I just don't need that for my work.

Thank you, paid 999 at best buy the day before and got the price match! Used the $109 savings toward the keyboard ($110 open box from BHphoto).

I have an SP7 with 8gb which we use for light surfing, email, and so on. It's good enough for one person. If your entire family is using it and doesn't religiously log out of their accounts when done, you're going to run into problems with memory usage. This goes doubly so if your kids love to open up all those browser games and so on.

Minimum 16GB ram needed in 2022, if you run virtual machines for work and study. This would be a killer deal even at $999 if it had 16GB ram.
We deploy these by the dozens for sales teams. Windows 10/11 runs fine on 8GB of RAM. The problem is the 128GB hard drive. 1/4 of that will be taken by Windows, you need 30GB to handles updates, and that doesn't leave much room for apps. We had to change over to 512GB models for that reason.

Is 8gb of ram good enough?
Depends on usage.

This, or a MacBook Air M1 for the same price?
I got M1 MBP and the battery life is insane. I really don't understand why anyone would buy a Windows laptop unless it's for gaming or they have to run some Windows only software for work. M1 absolutely smokes everything in its price range and it's not even close.

Im between that and the 8 based on the recent upgrades. But i may get the 7+ and then wait until the new ones come out later this year.

Yeah im thinking about replacing the SSD in these w/ a 1 TB. I think they use the 33 mm mini ones and they aren't bad to replace if you boot from usb and load onto it.

Damn say that to the most sold iphone in the world…

What is completely adequate for a phone is different than that of a computing device.

MBA every day of the week and twice on Sundays! So much more bang for the buck. Apple has captured lightning in a bottle with the M1 chip. It's made me a convert and by comparison Intel machines simply don't make sense right now.

FINALLY! Thunderbolt 4 😎. Time for some eGPU gaming. Well, maybe not with the i5. I imagine the new surface 8 also thermal throttles pretty bad under a load. The i7 with a fan could work. It would be nice to have a portable device for class, then have a little fun at home
