For what it will be used for, do you really need more than 8gb?

the costco dell seems a lot better for about $40 more.

If you don't mind waiting longer for apps and tabs to close, then I suppose not. However, more ram is nearly always at the top of any list of upgrades. 8GB is good for 2010 days. Even web sites aren't what they were then, and require more system resources to load without crashing. This laptop will never take more ram than it already has.

This would be a lot better deal if the manufacturer AT LEAST included an empty slot for a future upgrade.

Whew ! When I saw "7 series", and ~$550, I was like "Goddammit Slickdeals, I might be getting a new laptop tonight". ...Until I saw 8GB.

Jokes aside, this is a stellar deal for personal use. I do data science stuff for a fortune 100 company and up until late-2021, I have been using a 6th gen Core i5 with 8GB RAM on our company-issued laptop to do our data analysis work.

8GB non-upgradeable RAM is a show stopper. Also, this has a glossy screen which I don't like either but could live with if it had 16GB RAM or upgradeable RAM.

i've seen both in person and just purchased the dell. i'm happy with it. the big reasons for me are:
Dell (left) vs Lenovo (Right)
1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 the extra resolution means i see extra rows when working in excel
16gb ram vs 8gb ram - people hate 8gb non-upgradeable ram for a reason.
dell is more portable (slightly lighter and smaller footprint): 11.68" x 8.27" x 0.63" vs 12.62" x 8.20" x 0.59"
matte vs glossy screen (i had a touchscreen laptop previously and never used it since i have an ipad, plus the screen glare would get annoying. happy the new dell is matte)
also not a fan of a fabric cover on the lenovo.
and a big one here; return and warranty. the dell has 90 days to return and 4 year warranty with costco card

in theory, you could get both and compare side by side. the lenovo says it has 30 days free return.

good luck!

Agreed with everything you said and also would like to add that keyboard was much better on Dell, has that clicky feedback and not mushy
