These are different from the Philips SHP9500/00 that came out in 2013. If you look at the product information table, you will see that these are manufactured by NeeGo, and first released on February 10, 2021

These new releases have lower quality speakers in them. I recently purchased a pair of Philips L2 from a similar deal and when I got the box the specs listed on the box were significantly worse than those of the original L2s.

It looks like since 2018 Philips headphones have been distributed by a Honk Kong company called TPV technology. Here is more info on the topic: https://www.channelnews.com.au/ex...-collapse/

Fake news. They're NOT made by Neego. The microphone IS though. Just look at the title. Neego microphone, Philip's headphone on Amazon page...

I have the box in hand and the Neego name isn't on it anywhere...

Also, many of the reviews show these ARE the same as they were before and making best of lists presently.

I'm not sure a change in distributor has any relevance on the quality of the products. Now, a chance in manufacturer maybe . . .

Just search Philip's L2 changes and you can see they were revised and are apparently, lower quality now.

Try the same search with shp9500. These are the same design and specs.

Sorely tempted to pull the trigger... I just got the Philips Fidelio X2HR instead of the SHP9500 after a lot of mental back-and-forth. The X2HR are totally awesome, and some folks said the 9500 is just as good. Rtings.com has them one point apart. My one nit w/ the X2HR is they're a bit hefty, so the lighter 9500 are really tempting me. For reference, I hadn't been using headphones in years. I used to have Grado SR60, then Audio Technica ATH-M30x gathered dust on my shelf. For the sake of listening at night, I got back into headphones. I listen to mostly classical music and never warmed to the AT's, which sounded detailed but cold to me. The SR60 were more musical especially their mids, but I felt they were dull and boring. The Fidelio rock both hands down w/ mids, highs and thumping bass. I might be talking myself into the SHP9500 as a second pair of Philips (which I didn't even know made good cans!)...

Totally your choice, but I can provide a bit of feedback.

Over the last 7 years or so, I have experimented with set after set of the budget king recommendations. Here are just a few that I recall: Sennheiser HD201, Koss KSC-75 & KTXPro1, Some JVC over-ear cans, Gemini HSR-1000 (Takstar Pro 80 re-badge), OmeOdio Adapter free (studio 10) & Pro 50, Tribit X Free Tune, SuperluxHD 681 Evo, LyxPro HAS-30 (an ISK MDH 9000 clone) and these Philips.

I am more of a hard music fan; but have music of many, many genres. Are you familiar with the film or soundtrack for August Rush? That is one more Classical presentation that sounds great from my Fiio M7 and these 9500's.

I can't guarantee your experience, but they are now my new faves and hopefully will keep me from spending much more chasing "better" performance. I think I may finally be at the pinnacle of the intersection between value and performance.

Thinking of the law of diminishing returns as I really think you have to spend a fair bit more to get, arguably better all-around performance.

Though, I am intrigued by the new OneOdio Monitor 80...
