Not too computer shabby, will this be good for gaming or look elsewhere?
This doesn't have a dedicated graphics card so not ideal for gaming.

6 cores instead of 8?

This is a good deal, I wish Lenovo would give it 3yr warranty on the ThinkBooks like they do with their ThinkPads. If I buy this, I'm walking over to Amazon for the 4 year warranty, bringing the total to $800 which is getting very close to the price of a more premium x13 or a T14s ThinkPad with a much longer warranty on a good sale.

No. Not really. Even a MX450 gpu or the XE graphics on an i7-1165G7 will be considerably better. I've got the home version of this CPU, the 5600G, the built in GPU can be overclocked by about 25% or so, fast ram and does OK with some older games at 1080P, but it's really kinda limping along compared to even the most basic of gaming laptops. Even a GTX 1650 will be much better. This would be OK if you really wanted an ultrabook and only did very casual gaming on it.

Edit: Something like this Dell deal from yesterday will run rings around this Lenovo for gaming, but it's less portable and needs a ram upgrade.

Different sizes, screen styles. Imho this Lenovo has considerably better build quality (low business class) and far more powerful CPU. The integrated graphics are similar. Asus has an arguably better screen, bigger SSD.

How does it compare to this HP model for $50 more? I'm definitely not computer savvy but enjoy the option of a touchscreen

HP Pavilion 13.3" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 5800U - 1920 x 1200 - Windows 11
$699

I wouldn't touch any laptop with glare. Those shiny screens (which are a distinctive feature of any touchscreen laptop) have too many annoying reflections. Gloss vs Matt is like night and day, and when you look at a laptop for more than 1 hour a day, it makes no sense going gloss. So, I would choose the Thinkpad over the referenced HP (for other reasons as well). Only wish the Thinkpad was 14" rather than 13.3".

Is the ssd or hard drive upgradable to 1tb
Yes, you can replace the 512GB SSD with a 1TB 42mm (2242) NVMe SSD. 80mm (2280) SSDs are more common but will not fit.

Because someone's decision to purchase a product may very well swing on the return policy of the vendor. It's actually quite logical.
