Rumor has it Amazon will be increasing their prime membership to $139.

The price of Amazon Prime Membership will increase from $119/year to $139/year. The change will occur sometime in the next month or so (possibly on March 1, 2022). Prime Student price is also increasing from $59/year to $69/year.

Suggestion

You can lock in the $119 price by purchasing a Gift of Prime membership. These cost $119 right now and they never expire – set your Prime membership not to auto-renew by cancelling the membership using the 'Manage My Membership' tab, and then when it expires you'll apply the Gift of Prime to your account. (You won't lose your full current membership year when cancelling membership, as will be clear on the final screen; they even give the option on the final screen to 'pause' membership.)

Come on man. This increase is a 16% increase since 2018. Inflation over years: 2019 (2.3%, 2020 (1.4%), 2021 (7.0%). Be smarter about your assumptions.

Yes. Years ago I made the mistake of letting my account expire so that I can use a prime membership code I bought on sale. Found out after I was no longer on the grandfathered plan. My family members were booted.

My prime is paid for by my life insurance company as long as I workout regularly and go to an annual physical.

One way to (legitimately) offset price increases is to chat with an associate when something arrives later than the date they gave you. Be nice. Tell them you are a Prime customer and when things arrive late, you're not sure why you're paying for Prime if they can't honor their arrival date. They'll usually offer you something (maybe $5 or $10 is you express your disappointment) in return for your trouble. If you order a big ticket item (e.g., a TV) and they reschedule on you, take the reschedule. Then, go chat with a rep and use the same "if you can't honor your delivery date, I will need to rethink my Prime membership." I had a few packages come late (not weather related) and I got about $20 in credit. I had a TV delivery rescheduled and they refunded me 50% of my annual Prime membership without me asking for anything. Of course, if nothing is late or rescheduled for you… lucky you!

How unlucky. My current sub runs out March 28th! Can I just renew before mine expires or just buy the sub "gift" for myself.

Great. How is that relevant to anyone else here? Care to share your life insurance name so a person who has insurance there and isn't getting the benefit can get it? Or was this just a not-so-humble brag?

Huh? It's very close. Inflation adjusted would be $132. Plus this only takes effect after first quarter of 2022 (another 2% or so). It's quite literally almost exactly kept to inflation.

Wow it's like… things increase in price
Sure, but 25%, then 20% and now 12.5%? I think you missed their point.

FYI, just tried to gift myself. Failed. Ended up having to exchange for a gift card. I did use the email tied to my Amazon account I've had since 2003. Oh well.

Hard to not have Prime once you've gotten a taste…
Amazon is a terrible shopping experience, I wouldn't shop there even if it were free.

So unfortunate that the series is done…at least temporarily. Now I'm staying for Reacher and LOTR.
At least all of Reacher drops tomorrow instead of that weekly crap they did with The Expanse and other shows.

Good laugh reading all the comments. Another space trip, moving a bridge, blah blah. The Uber rich have been doing this kind of stuff literally for centuries. Oil and RR barons, Howard Hughes, plenty of history and it won't change. Wonder how many here have money invested in a retirement fund with some ownership in Amazon, Apple and others. I know I have enjoyed the market appreciation from these companies. So say thanks, pay or don't pay. Remember that cities and states have bent over (literally) handing out subsidies to secure warehouses and jobs. Those subsidies come to an end at some point and prices will go up and service will decline. Hell I've probably spent as much on things I didn't need as I have in things I did.

Meh. While I'm never a fan of price increases, $20 isn't going to force anyone into bankruptcy and isn't worth all the diatribe. Buy 2 less drinks at $tarbuck$ a year. Big deal.

Same question here. I don't see an option to turn off auto renew.
You can send your Gift email like 3 days before your Prime renew date. That will be a reminder to cancel your Prime membership and then use the Gift code the day AFTER your Prime ends to restart Prime.

Checking my Amz emails, I did this back in 2015 for a Prime Emmy 'sale' and 2018 on a previous price hike.

I liked the Expanse but it's done, final season. They seem to be pushing Wheel of Time now
