How cheap is the ink replacement? I got this Canon ink jet printer and third party ink costs like 15 bucks but half the time it doesn't work due to non branded cartridge.
Of every Black&White printer ever made, this particular printer is the cheapest per-page (due to refill cartridges not having any chips in this, the last generation of chipless toner) of any printer ever made.

On top of that, this particular model is the "top" of all the printers of the chipless generation, meaning it has the fastest pages-per-minute printing, etc. If you went higher in features than this particular printer, then you'd be in "chip toner" (more expensive per page) territory.

So think of this as the best featured CHIPLESS toner monochrome printer in existence that has the absolutely cheapest possible cost per page.

Can I add that these are real workhorses? Lots of people report using them daily for many years in small office and home office environments, with no issues.

I bought a similar refurbished model from Staples back in early October. The delivery date was supposed to be early December. Within an hour of ordering it, the delivery date switched to late January. I was upset, but decided to wait for it still. Fast forward a couple months to early December and I received an order cancelation email. Apparently they didn't have stock to fill my order I place two months prior. Just sharing my experience incase it helps someone make a decision on this. I would not personally order anything from Staples if I could avoid it after this experience. Customer service was not very helpful either.

Good luck on actually getting one. I tried the Brother refurb printer deals at Staples twice last year. Each order was cancelled by Staples after they had been on back order for more than a month. Fortunately I was able to score one at Wally World so I don't even have to bother trying with this crapshoot. For those that order I wish you luck.

No subscriptions and cheap aftermarket toner. Check the other comments; this one is very cheap to own.

I don't see where expecting built-in Airprint in this price range is being realistic (I'm commenting on the comment you commented on haha). At $30-$40 more, maybe. Or on a slammin' deal like the Canon MF242DW deal recently at $100.

Wrong. The 2300 series uses TN660 cartridges, the last line of Brother cartridges with NO chip. Nothing to hack. Refill with no problems.

Your Brother printers must use the 700 or higher cartridges that added a chip.
Is this printer hackable? Is there a 2021 version? I bought some revised older models last year (like 4) of printers that don't work bc they got the chip in. I have a printer from years back that is refillable. The point is that the newer, updated models from brother (from Vietnam) have been microchipped in the name of capitalism. Bc I got the 2021 model of FOUR brother printers last year and all of which prevented me from refills. That surprised me because previously I owned older brother printers that did not and we're refillable.

I'm giving updated information of what I personally have went at length to figure out. I even wrote in other forums to personally hack the the chips for which nobody could respond bc the manufacture's identity is kept a mystery so I cannot find the data sheet for the chips configuration of VCC, GND, SCL, and SDA to data dump info and reset the eeprom. It was shocking the length brother went to hide the identity of the chip maker to avoid diy ppl from messing with it. I ended up giving up.

ppl may need to be prepared in case an updated model may be chipped. I know I was shocked. U r right though. I have 760 toners.

FYI it's not hackable with microchip. U can buy third parties for $10 but refills are impossible.

I own many brothers and tried to hack myself. I'm ok with it but just giving heads up regarding chip reset. Still don't like the artificial barrier to purposely stop us from refilling. But no other companies allow it at this point.
not worth exposing yourself to toner for a few dollars, just buy 3rd party cartridges

Agreed. I was careful when I bought my Brother all-in-one (MFCL2685DW) to make sure that it used the older TN630/TN660 cartridges. And the cheap aftermarket cartridges work great in it with zero issues. Those dang OEM cartridges are highway robbery.
Brother HL-L2395DW can use generic ink cartridges?

Not sure $9 and 2 reams of paper are worth getting a used item vs a brand new one. The new one is $109 which comes out to $89 after coupon. I personally would just by the new one but that's just me. Maybe to others saving $9 is worth it.
