Found 3 new in box Makita mowers on clearance. This was at HomeDepot store in Covina, CA store# 1845. I have not seen this at other store locations but maybe your store will have these on clearance there or price match to this store's clearance tag?

Has anyone had any luck with this in store? I really want one since my other mower is on it's last leg and i'm in the Makita tool line. I've checked a couple of stores while i was getting other things. Each HD has 4+ of them on the shelf when i've gone in. The price tag says $699 at the store, but when I scan the barcode with my app (in store).. it says not in stock/availible at the location, but shows $849 to buy online. I've had employees scan it and it shows $699 for them. Treid to swing the $399 but they wouldn't do it.

This one shows 849.99 regular price instead of the 799.99 on the sticker from the picture. None shown in stock around the store mentioned by OP. Might be a different sku number.

It won't show on bs. Ask the store people to check stock using their store phone and not their computer; I found the store phone is usually accurate and computer just redirects them to the HD website. If you can't find it on the floor it'll be up in the rafters near the mowers +/- two aisles over.

Cerritos CA had 3 up in the rafters in the mower aisle for $399. You gotta point it out to the store people and they will happily bring them down. Boxes look decent too, although Makita has to work on their packaging game.

A few complaints are that the height adjustment is a weak point, the front end will dig into the ground. Another is that the batteries take 45 minutes to charge so make sure they're all charged up before you start. Finally don't cut tall grass with this, keep up with your lawn or you'll need a gas mower backup, especially if you over seed or fertilize and like a thick lawn. Batteries last about 2 years so budget for new batteries in year 3, otherwise they are severely depleted at that point if you cut the grass weekly 9 months or more out of the year. if your lawn takes more than 40 minutes to cut get yourself a good gas mower instead.

Don't they have 3 year warranty? Can't you replace the batteries for free if they die after 2 years?

They don't warranty normal wear. If you get 25 minutes in year 2 they won't give you new batteries.

I agree with some of what you said. But I think the battery issue is the same for all battery powered lawnmowers. The plus here is that two new batteries for this mower is $120 on Amazon right now. Most systems that use 40v, 60v, 80v batters cost $250 a $300 or more for a replacement battery. To me that is a big win for the 18v Mikita system.

Also check reviews, their are many videos of these Makita lawn mowers going though tall, nasty, weedy grass.

Good points. Keep the blades extra sharp and deck clean, which should extend the battery and allow the mower to cut quicker, and easier. $120 is much easier to swallow.

I think the main issue is price. Even on clearance for $400 there are a lot of full price choice out there for that money or slightly more.
