I was skeptical to buy these speakers, but I decided to give them a try as these are Elacs and they are cheap. These speakers are just amazing. They are small, dynamic enough, and have good bass. They are a bit dark on the top end, but overall they sound amazing for the price. I've used many expensive speakers, and these should cost way more than the price they are selling at. These are perfect for a desktop setup and play perfectly fine on my SMSL A12 amp. Highly recommended!

Absolutely. But remember that they have low sensitivity, so they will be harder to drive.

I haven't heard these but I reckon they would be excellent surrounds and elevation speakers. That's straight where my mind went. I'm doing a basement quick and dirty sim racing rig build right now and these are screaming at me to use for my surrounds. Heck, even mains based on OPs comments!

Tried these for a week and returned them. I know sound is subjective but these speakers aren't good at all. Very plain. And I have to disagree with the OP here-- hardly any bass. Any of the older AJ Pioneer bookshelves that were similar in size and around this price range (e.g. BS21-LR) are superior to this one. Even at this price not worth it-- just save your money and look for future deals on better speakers.

Sound is absolutely subjective. When you say plain, I guess you are talking about the top end. I did mention that they are dark. Also, quantifying bass is hard. Bass-head will surely need a sub. For someone like me, the bass is more than enough on my desk setup. I actually have turned the bass down to keep it in check.

These are just 4" woofers in a small cabinets. So, we have to think in that sense. They can't fill a big room with sound, but they are absolutely good sounding set of speakers for my taste in a near-field or small room setup.

Elac is a well regarded German company. I doubt they would send someone on slickdeals to sell their cheapest model. I might be wrong though.
