umm there is no "learning curve" with windows 11. If you already used to windows 10 then in no time you will be proficient in windows 11

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Len...869.0.html suggests the WiFi card is swappable. Intel AX200 should be ~$25 from Ebay to get WiFi6.

Except for wifi, this checks all the boxes. Great price! Do we know if the WiFi card is swappable?

This isn't true. There are restrictions on Windows 11 that Windows 10 did not have. For example, the task bar now requires that tasks are grouped. It's a real pain in the ass.

Yes i do that sometimes, but is there a permanent fix for it? It is certainly very annoying

Which Google result did you find compelling? This is an Ideapad 5 Pro.

I started reading the reviews and many of them mentioned a learning curve with windows 11

I want to avoid learning curves- a new computer is going to be a pain in itself with all the authentications & such

SMH

Still I may call my store to see if they have it on the shelf and if they do it would save the $10 shipping
And maybe even another $50 cheaper

Auth is a bit confusing as they are trying to do what Apple does well:
Have a local user
Allow full-integration into their cloud services

So far, it feels a bit ham-handed. If this is going to be YOUR computer and one user, it's probably very straightforward. I've not used touch screen on win11, but if you're going from 10, it's good to change now.

If you're coming from 8/8.1, you've been lobotomized (windows legacy UI/workflow) and 11 is going to be an uphill climb.

it's an older generation, newer one is called Wireless-ax or WiFi 6. just want to future proof my investment.
future proofing is rarely worth it. i've never had a laptop in this price segment last longer than 5 years. even my MBP from 2008 really only effectively lasted me 4-5 years. by then it was completely outdated either software wise, battery wise (sure replaceable), or hardware wise. i think you have a reasonable concern, but i don't think its worth weighing too heavily for most people. just buy another $500-600 laptop in 4-5 years. i have yet to upgrade to wifi6 in my house. i will probably in 3-4 years, but for now will leave it alone.

I hate being "that guy", but I am. Don't use Chrome (for a myriad of reasons).

That said, it is very arbitrary. As an example, when the end-of-life certain hardware that runs Chrome OS, existing bugs are only fixed in new versions and nothing is back ported. Obviously you can always upgrade chrome browser on Windows, but build-to-build you have no guarantees on something that is a "hardware issue" (from Google's standpoint).

This has a touch screen, which means it's already outside of the majority of hardware configurations people are using. It also has "shared memory" for the graphics, which people pan, but it actually functions as designed. Things like games (especially ones ported through a java launcher) look for hardwired memory and it will complain about your configuration doesn't work right. (Seeing this already on my son's Win8.1/Steam/32GB system 1GB card RAM).

That said, it could be related or not at all . . . chrome IIRC on windows launches many processes instead of threads; it would be annoying, but if you set it to restore browsing on re-launch, you can kill/reopen it.

If I were hard up for a PC and that were my only option, I'd script it and have a shortcut.

I have the Intel version of this laptop. Thought I would give Lenovo a try as my Dell i7 had the motherboard fry and fail while my HP had hinges that failed and cracked the screen, both a couple of months after warranty.

I had heard the Lenovo hinges were a problem but mine have held up well. However, the keyboard failed after 9 months, luckily still under warranty. After six weeks out for repair, they returned it to me but they disabled my fingerprint reader during repairs. And now, the USB-C is inoperative so no charging. Another unreliable laptop.

I may give ASUS or Acer a try next but I'm beginning to believe that ANY sub- $1500 laptop is junk. Luckily my Samsung Tablet has operated flawlessly. Maybe cheap Chromebooks are the way to go instead of shelling out $1000 bucks a year on these Chinese Windows bricks.

My days of buying Lenovo are done. Having major issue with Yoga C940 and they have tried everything to fix it without success. Requested replacement and have been given the runaround

Chiming in - my theory is to get the best processor/screen combo you can for the $. Those have the biggest impact on your day-to-day enjoyable usage, and they realistically can't be upgraded. This is a pretty potent match of CPU & screen for $650, IMHO. The Aero for $700 at Costco is even smaller but slightly more powerful with its power-choked Ryzen 7.

Yes, very easy to do. I've done it on mine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/233853688184 It's about $20.

I agree with you. However, that has never been an issue. It doesn't matter how good the CPU and/or screen is when you can't use your computer because the keyboard doesn't work, the battery won't charge or the screen shatters all because you are using other cheap components. Although I have a different CPU than this model, I'm pretty sure it has the same keyboard and USB-C connections as mine, both of which failed within 12 months.
