The new iPad 9th Gen only supports Apple Pencil 1st gen, not the 2nd gen. Many of the older devices do not support the 2nd gen pencil.

Hi using a 7th generation iPad with latest iPadOS. I purchased this 1st gen Apple Pencil and it works really well. Got it at Best Buy during one day sale for $59. This was all before march 2020.

Get procreate for $10 … incredible painting app with no subscription. has a huge following. Procreate aims to challenge Adobe. Using procreate and a 1st gen Apple Pencil will surprise you.

Compared to Wacom pads and art apps in windows, an older iPad, 1st gen Apple Pencil, and an affordable but world class app opens many doors to aspiring artists.

Also, I use the same setup for work and class to take notes. The pencil works incredibly well with recognition software along with very powerful iPad apps that cost less than $10. These apps help organize notes. Also great with mind-map apps.

Give it a chance if you have a supported ipad.

Edit: link to pencils and which ones they support:

If I have this right, in fall 2019, we went with the 1st gen pencil because we were just cheap. Looking now at the iPads added since 2019, 1st gen pencil covers a lot of devices.

Is the Apple pencil the only stylus that has tilt control and palm rejection on the iPad? I definitely think the iPad could easily support those things with other styluses. If it doesn't... that's a shameless money grab by Apple.
no, it's an open protocol and there are ones that work just like the apple pencil, such as the logitech crayon does and a few others. but the stylus requires a bluetooth connection with the device to sync its location and position in order to transmit that data. so any 3rd party device you get that doesn't mention a bluetooth connection probably isn't going to work the way you think it does.

Word of warning: do NOT let this sit in the box, open and use right away. These "expire" if left unused too long and if they are old stock then higher likelihood. Seems the battery discharges too far to be recharged after a while.

I applied coupon WOWFRESH on Walmart and it gave me an additional $10 off. Should add this to the thread, YMMV.

You're aware that those celebrities fell for a phishing scam and not because iCloud wasn't secure right? Don't spread misinformation.
Not sure exactly what you're trying to get at but it's been proven that ios is no more secure than Android. Android is just targeted more because it has many more users(for obvious reasons) than ios does.
